You have grown in stature throughout the years, and you are helping us to do the same. So kindly, you pass over the foolish, frivolous, and weak things you can't help dimly seeing in our hearts, instead, you look far enough to find all the beautiful and radiant belongings hidden there. You have laid firm hold on the possibilities of the good in us, adding to our inner music by Worshipful listening. You are helping us to make, of the lumber of our lives, not a tavern, but a temple, and, of the words of our everyday, not a reproach, but a song. For what you are, Hockaday, we honor you. 754'-'X ., D+ Egggl- , , f-I .J-3, . if ' ,, 2 . if.: i YY , . The immense value which she places on fairness and right conduct is super- ceded only by her great concern for others. When one was needed to make order out of chaos, she effectively em- phasized a greater unity among members of the class. She spent countless hours working with school and class leaders, ever striving to discover a better and more efficient procedure. In a world where the word friend is often misused and treated lightly, she has remained an example of the true meaning of the word. She is youthful, but respected, realistic, but imaginative, knowledge- able, but seeking knowledge. just as the Founders Day award honors those whom we seek to emulate, so does this dedication. We, the Senior Class, proudly dedicate the 1968 Cornerstones to Mrs. William E, O'Neal. Q iff f n 'P , NMR. These feelings inherent in each Hockaday girl were instilled there fifty-four years ago by Miss Ela Hocka- day at the founding of the school. She placed infinite importance on loyalty towards schoolmates and towards the school itselfg pride in the four cornerstones was another of her vvatchwords, Today, Miss Hockadayfs dreams are coming even closer to fruition. Her ideals are the basis for the past, present, and future of the school. facullg and curriculum Education directs rnan's actions, in- spires his behavior in all his contacts with mankind, and helps him to master himself. .JVM 2 1 my l aguimmum u its in L' Mr Robert S Lyle Headmaster conferring, with Nancy Strauss, President of the Student Council. The Seniors gave a high tea for the new faculty, and they bowed to the Freshmen on Senior-Freshman day. Other projects are teacher take-offs and the senior dinner and prom. Want zz bite? 229 The Hockaday School 11600 Welch Road Dallas, Texas 75229 The 1968 C01'l2:?I'Il07Z6,f is now complete. It has travelled the full process of publication. Beginning with rough planning last spring, the staff took the book through an endless amount of photography, long sessions of drawing up lay-outs, final proofreading, and submission to Taylor Publishing Company for publication. The book represents hours of work on the part of many people. Most important, a yearbook can only be as good as its staff and its staff's willingness to work. This year's staff was among the best. Each girl knew her job and excelled in it, making the editor's job that much easier. These girls were de- pendable in meeting deadlines, imaginative in their work, and enthusi- astic in their desire to make the yearbook the best ever. I thank them. Next, every staff needs a sponsor such as ours to keep calm when every- one else isn't. Without Mrs. Kenning's help, you probably wouldn't have your yearbook today. All of the formal pictures and most of the informal ones should be credited to the expert skill of Mr. William Gary, Mr. Kurt Borris, and Mr. Charles Fullenweiner. And a special thanks goes to Hunt Greene of St. Mark's and Mr. David Wagnon who saved us many times this year. Mr. Bob Lynch, our Taylor's representa- tive, has also been most helpful with his suggestions. Finally, the goal of the yearbook staff has been to present a lasting record of your year at Hockaday. We hope you like it. Sincerely, Susan Tobian Editor direciorg Absent in body but present in spirit. fzmyfu wills s 23l x Barnes, Molly . . . Bassett, jennifer . . . Bayoud, Laura ......
