CLASS HISTORY-1960 61 In 1948 there were sixty of what are now known as the Seniors of Hoboken High School who started to school. Most of the class was very excited about this new ex- perience and were busy meeting their classmates. A few were crying and wanted to go home to their parents. However, after a few days of school, we all settled down to the regular routine. The first three years of our school life were spent in the little white building, then in the fourth grade, we moved into the brick building. We proudly entered the new brick building at the beginning of our seventh year of school. When we entered high school, in the ninth grade, we felt grown-up because we were finally a part of the highschool students. It was at this time that we began to choose the subjects which we thought would be most useful to us in the future. In the eleventh grade we begin to work toward our graduation. The first important event in our Junior year was our Junior Play. Tumblin’ Creek.” Another was the Junior- Senior Banquet. The one we thought most important was the day we ordered our class rings. We were all excited at the beginning of our Senior year because we knew our class ring would soon arrive. When they did finally arrive, everyone was more excited than ever before. We presented our Senior Play Whoa Auntie!” Which was an important event of the year. Others were our magazine campaign and a chicken supper. Now, as the time of our graduation draws closer, we are all trying to decide what field we will choose as our life’s career. We still look forward to our graduation, but we will always look back to these years we have spent together as one big, happy class, knowing that these are the happiest days of our life, as we have been told so many times. CLASS PROPHECY The class of 1961 from Hoboken High held its 10th Annual Banquet at Dinkier Plaza Hotel on Main Street, Hoboken. The owner of the hotel, Elaine Crews, is a member of this class. AVERY GRIFFIN, Professor of English at Georgia Southern presided over the banquet. EDWARD CARTER was the first speaker for the evening. He is chief pin boy at Lake Tuffy’s and his topic was, How to Set Up Bowling Pins.” VANNIE GRIFFIN spoke on, What I Gained From College.” Vannie will graduate in June and become an officer in the Waves. DR. BARBARA ALDRIDGE and DR. MARY EASTERLING demonstrated ways to make your child behave. Both doctors have important positions at the Milledgeville State Hospital. The banquet menu was planned by DERRELL STRICKLAND, chief cook at the Green Frog Restaurant. JIMMY BELL, wealthy Florida farmer, provided the food. Music was provided during the meal by Warren’s Moonriders.” This band consists of WARREN CREWS, bandleader and steel guitar; NOAH HUTCHINSON, playing the washtub; LONNIE DUBOSE, playing the bass horn; LINDA CREWS, singer; and MARGARET DAVIS, pianist. ELAINE STRICKLAND provided cocktails from her still in the Kentucky Mountains. Others attending the banquet were RAY ALTMAN, chief executive of the Schlitz Brewing Company, and RONALD HERRIN, his top secretary. LORETTA MILTON, jet pilot of Pan American, flew to Hoboken for the occasion with her lawyer, GEORGIA LEE JONES, who is running for the office of State Governor this year. PEARL REDDING, manager of the Globe-Trotters, attented the banquet with her shoe- shine boy, STANLEY DOWLING. ESTELLE LEWIS, fashion model from Paris, came with herfavorite designer from the House of Dior, LINDA GUNTER. Ford Tractor mechanics, CAROLYN ALTMAN and MARY ANN GUY, attended the Banquet as soon as possible after closing their shop. CAROLYN LEE , secretary for LINDA FOWLER’S beauty salon, attended the banquet with her husband. She is the mother of three sets of twins. MARGARET MILES also attended the banquet, leaving her eight children with her husband, Harvey. ROGER STONE, who is building a lake at Lake Tuffy’s arrived at the banquet with BENNY DEAN, Secretary of the Air Force. PATRICIA AMMONS, maid at the Brantley County Jail, was free to attend the banquet be- cause Sheriff ROY GRIFFIN did not make any arrests that week. After the banquet, however, AVERY GRIFFIN, JR. was arrested for putting firecrackers in the barbecue pit. ELNA CARTER w s the only class member unable to attend. She was injured when the car she was driving in downtown Goosebay, Labrador suddenly lost all four tires due to some pranks played by her students at Goosebay High School.
