DR. WALTER II. DTK FEE Dr. Walter II. Durfee assumed the new office of Provost of Hobart College in September 1948. A familiar figure on the campus for a long time, Dr. Durfee had previously served the college as Acting President and Dean. DR. SEYMOUR B. DUNN Dr. Seymour B. Dunn became Dean of Hobart College in September 1948 but he still retains his post as professor of history. Dr. Dunn returned to Hobart in 1947 from service with the Navy and since this time he has become very active in all phases of campus activity.

Dr. Alan Willard Brown was formally inaugurated on October 23, 1948. He is the seventeenth president of Hobart College and the sixth of W illiam Smith. Dr. Brown believes that a general, not a narrow special- ized, education is advisable. He feels that this type of general education will not be merely an end in itself, but will become a means to better educated men and more responsible citizens. With his vitality and per- sonal charm, the new president will undoubtedly be able to achieve these ends. 8
