We started Junior-High with 25 students looking forward to the day we would become Seniors. luring our last six years we lost the following students: Donald Michael, Myles Parsons, and Bill lavis. We were also sorrowed by the death of Jimmy Prichard in the 7th grade. We also wel- Jmed three new students who were Gladys Shaffer, Pat Taylor, and Delores Roth. In our Junior year we had the concessions at the home basketball games and our class play Hillbilly Weddin' under the direction of Mr. Chapman our class sponsor. We also honored the 7 Seniors with a colorful prom. Now We are Seniors and graduation is coming closer and closer. We all say we will be glad to 2 out but really we all enjoy school and will hate to leave it and all the happy experiences it rought us. In our Senior year, as a memorial tn the school, we presented a Hi-Fi phonograph layer. We have used this at a dance and a class party. Along with all the other things the Senior class had to do, we picked our class colors which were atin and blue and crystal white. The class flower is red roses. Our class motto is Our Goal is iuccessf' As our class is the largest in high school and although things become a little complicated once 1 awhile we are all proud of such a large class and would hate to lose any of them. With such a ass, we are now anxiously planning and working hard on our class trip. Mr. and Mrs. Dean will be lr sponsors and We are sure that they can show us a good time. As our school days here are over we want to wish all of the students and teachers here at good d H-J, in the cwning years, the best of luck and may they all be as happy as the ones we have iperienced. . +--f-- -i-- - i-ii - -'-- - ---' - i-i- - i-ii - 1i-i - --ii - iii- - -i-i - '-i- - -lif - iiii -u- -i-i - i-i- - 'i-i --g , KAUSER TRUCKING COMPANY Sponsor. i Paulding, Ohio sam-M--W-----Wm-mmmwa l.i. illi i-i- -iil l-ii i.ii .Ex .. . Qs 1 fi ff! Darlene Baker Doyle Adams He has improved as a student more than anyone else, perhaps due to the influence of Janice Snyder. Doyle was cooperative, dependable and unassuming. These qualities made him a favorite with teachers. Neatness and good grooming are trademarks of Doyle and his physical appearance has always been of a superior quality. Biology was his favorite sub- ject and he also completed many fine shop-projects. Activities and offices: band and basketball, one year, student council freshman and senior, and class plays. Seniors Being po Jular sometimes makes one conceited l but not is the case with Darlene. Attractiveness and a pleasant attitude seem to go hand-in-hand with good students who are also very active in extra-curricular activities-this is true of Darlene. Darlene did very well in commercial subjects and mathematics. She is a serious student and would make good college material. One characteristic of hers which stands above the others is dependabil- ity. Her participation in the Senior trio has certain- ly been appreciated. Much of her spare time is spent in bowling, skating, and collecting records. Actvities and class offices: chorus, three years, Y-Teens, four years, vice-president of Y-Teens, one year, band, one year, and 4-H, two years. Jan Dunlap The gentleman, manager of the basketball and baseball teams-that's our Jan. He was very help- ful to the athletic department and his many hours of devotion are thankfully appreciated. His small- ness in stature is more than compensated by his bold spirit and pleasant attitude. Riding motor- scooters and roller skating occupy a large part of his spare time. Activities: chorus, one year, basketball mana- ger, junior and senior, baseball manager, freshman and sophomore, and junior class play. Wayne is quiet and a bit shy but gets along well with everybody. Aca- demics have been important to Wayne and he has shown much interest in many of his subjects. De- mocracy and science courses were his favorites, even though good grades are more difficult to get in these courses. He likes to collect historical arti- cles and to read interesting books on history. Ag- riculture clubs have occupied much of his spare time. Activities and offices: chorus, three years, treas- urer, freshman, secretary, junior, and a member of junior class play. uQM1lm.....,1.uu1uu1inu1wn1ulv-.HUlu-.1vm,uIllini.-I...--ul,nn.1m..-nuiyq. The twins are very co-operative and have done many extra curricular jobs for the school, and their faithfulness will not be forgotten soon. Both girls have been active in the Y- Teens during all four years of high sch- ool. The girls are both fond of the same subjects-Home economics and typing. Both girls have been active in the Youth for Christ organization, with Marilyn president and Carolyn vice-president. 1 Connie Foster A pleasing appearance and a ready smile-these are the trademarks of Connie. A quiet, modest stu- dent who was always willing to complete the as- signments given to her. Her cooperation with the teachers has been greatly appreciated. Besides being a favorite with teachers, Connie was very popular with her fellow students. Activities and offices: chorus and Y-teens, four yearsg president of Y-teens, juniorg president of class, sophomoreg treasurer of Y-teens, sophomoreg member of student council one yearg and in junior class play. Harold Hoersten Harolds' claim to fame is basketball. He was the tallest player ever to wear a Hoaglin-Jackson uni- form, and it is doubtful if there ever will be a taller player at our school. He really loved the game and presented the fans with some of the most unusual thrills that were ever presented on the H-J floor. Being shy and quiet and a demon on the floor gives Harold a double personality. Besides sports, Harold is mechanically inclined and likes to tinker with cars. Activities were devoted entirely to basketball. He is mechanically inclined and likes to work on cars. Don is well liked by both teachers and students, and is a well adjusted individual. He has been granted the gift of clear thinking processes, which should be used to great advantage. Music is important to her and she will always be remem- bered as the number one base drummer of the band who kept a mean beat. Home economics was her favorite course and she enjoyed doing the many pro jects required for the completion of this course. Seniors ,y.leet. cjsa -vvi c 2 fg,V A'i H-fi Lave McCracken Athletics and academics sometimes do not go together, but Dave succeeded quite well with both, and found time to be the class entertainer with his timely hiunor. College is of prime importance in his future plans and he should succeed in his future endeavor. Accounting and electricity interest him and could be his future vocations. Activities and class offices: basketball, base- ballg and chorus, four years, band, one year, stu- dent council, one yearg and senior class play. Carl Rogers Carl was always a leader in class administration and organization. He was a very dependable backer of the class, and school and his shoes will be hard to fill. His faithful study habits should give Carl the necessary background for college entrance which he is contemplating. Basketball was of pri- mary interest to Carl and he left us with many pleasant memories of some of his athletic feats. Activities and offices: basketball, four years, chorus, two years, band, and student council treas- urer, one yearg president of junior class, and vice- president of rendevous committee, Y.M.C.A. Delores Roth Paulding county's gift to us has been valuable in many respects. Delores has obtained the nickname of Chief and she certainly has lived up to this title. She has been a leader in just about every ac- tivity she has participated in, which has been many. She possesses all the traits of a respected leader and will certainly! make a prom- ising citizen after graduation. Academically, Delores has few peers, if any, in the school. Let's hope that Delores seeks higher education after high school. A book could be Written on her many interests. activities, and offices but a list of the important ones will suffice. She engaged in just about every activity she was qualified to enter, and yet was an outstanding student. To say she is an extravert is putting it mildly . She is personality plus and the possessor of an ample supply of charm and poise. Undoubtedly she was the most outstand- ing graduate in music. At the Oakwood basketball game of the season 1956-57, Harold Hoersten, better known! as Big Jim , literally threw a ball the length of the floor and it went swishing through. Our rivals from Ottoville never quite believed the story of Big Jim , who is well acquainted with the people of that area, but with seconds to go in the third quarter of the Otto- ville game, the ball was passed to Big Jim and some one yelled, Shoot! , whereas he threw the ball without any resemblance of proper shooting form. The ball Went through the hoop without touching the rim or backboard. H-J's and Ottoville's fans were completely awed by what had taken place and the H-J's fans started making a jubilant noise as this put us within three points of them. We hope in future years we may have another Big Jim . Eat those Wheaties, underclass- men!!! Out of my way, I'm coming through. Whoa! The league standings were very close all through the season and reached an exciting climax 'ith a very hard earned victory in the last game of the regular seasan at Convoy. Danny Thatcher led the county in batting average which was .649. Out of this he hit 4 home- ms, 2 triples, and a double. He also was highest in runs-batted-in. Danny's hitting was a great lspiration to the rest of the team. We were very proud of the team's accomplishment and would like to thank Mr. Dean for his ex- glent job of coaching. Mr. Avery played speech records for the clas and had the tape recorder for the speeches. The Seniors found out that giving speeches helps to create poise and enhances the ability to spea fluently in front of large groups of people. SOCIAL STUDIES The classes in the social studies department are Ohio history, World History, and Democracy The eighth grade obtained a new series of Ohio History books. The Democracy class received nev books with up-to-date information. Each class of the social stuudies department has a project for the year, either of making maps oi reports on historical books. Mr. Davis would like to take the Juniors and Seniors on a field trip either to a trial or some state affiliated institution. The Juniors and Seniors are taking Democracy this year and are learning the principals of how our government is run. Our study of Homemaking has been broadened by a few additions to the Home Ec. Department. nr one thing, a laundry unit, including an automatic washer and dryer, has been installed. Also, Baby Jane, with her complete layette, arrived last fall soon after school opened. She has made e study of Infant Care more interesting and effective. Class work has also been made easier by the addition of new ceiling lights, enhancing a newly corated wall. The room was made more functional with a newly constructed utility cupboard by r. Dean and his boys. Before the holiday season the 11th and 12th grade classes did a few projects in crafts, culmina- nn, the study of the importance of hobbies. These projects include reed bun baskets and casserole sh holders. Coasters were made from leather on which attractive designs had been tooled. Dainty col- 'ed aluminum serving trays were shaped and etched in beautiful designs. After the holiday season, the department took on an air similar to that of an upholstery shop, men an old chair was completely refinished and re-upholstered by the class. 1 PHYSICS The Physics class in co-operation with the other science .classes are preparing a program of dem- istrations to be given at the Penny Fair this year. The men of the community donated their time and effort to get this completed. The number of men working averaged from 10 to 15 a day. The trucks were donated by Rudy and Wendell Ad- ams and the elevators by the Scott Elevator and residents of the community. The Etter Tile Company of Dupont donated the tile.
