orward With the passing of time, the echoes of our school life will grow fainter and fainter, and then die away. Gone forever will be the routine of school life, the fun we had, and the friends we made. It is the hope of the 1956-57 Hoaglin-Jackson Annual Staff, as you glance through this book in the years to come, you will recapture those moments - - - and the echoes will begin again. .!.---.-,..---- ,-,. SPANISH Buenos dias, todo el mundo! That's right - in Spanish we try for conversational experience. We listen and answer, as much as we can, in the language we are learning to read and write. SPEECH Things we study in Speech class are many and varied. There is everything from parlimentary procedure to the appreciation of good drama. Also, outside speech activities are encour- aged. One member of our class is a county winner in this year's Prince of Peace Oratorial Contest. We attempt to bring the child to the highest level of which he is capable in the use of these tools. A student who possesses these abili- ties faces all areas of life with fewer handicaps. He is more likely to devel- op an inquiring attitude, relate course content to life situations, feel his worth as an individual, be better ad- justed, and be capable of enjoying a richer, more meaningful life. PRIVATE MUSIC LESSSON S When one walks through the halls you might mistak- lngly think that you are in a conservatory of music. Any- time during the day, one may hear the melodious sounds of students laboring with difficult musical exer- cises. The music students are fortunate in receiving priv- ate lessons by the music tea- zher. Many hours are spent with individualized instruc- tion for each student. Much of the practice is spent in helping the musician to master the more difficult parts of the songs which are practiced by the varsity band during their regular practices. It is because of this individual instruction that the High School Band is able to perform at its best. The cooperation of the students and parents is important for the administering of this specialized program Mr Lecklider this year had added something new to the school A sixteen piece orchestra has been formed and is well on the way to becoming a polished organization Also this year the music department is taking different groups to Lima and the band to Ada to participate and to receive special ratings ac ording to their performance Mr Lecklider has brought into the band and chorus repretoire more modern musical scores SHOP MR DEAN Furniture making leathercraft plastics and metal working are the main topics in Industrial A for the 1956 57 school year Many of the tudents have already produced very fine projects ln furniture making Cedar chests coffee tables book cases gun racks closet cabinets and wall cupboards head the list Leather is new to H J but it too is gaining ground Our work ranges from key cases and belts to billfolds Many of the boys have produced personalized name belts Plastics and metal working are the incomplete units in our shop Lack of proper equipment and Lpplie make it so GLENWOOD ADAMS HERFF JONES C0 Auctioneer Manufacturers of Jewelry 81 Stationary V n Wert Ohio I 1417 1417 N Capitol Ave Indianapolis Ind I 17 l ! ! ., . With 3 seconds to play in the 1st quarter our 6 ft. 6 inch center grabbed the ball from the defensive board, knowing that he would have no time to set up a play involving his teammates, he took the ball in one hand, while standing under the opponents basket, literally threw it at the oppo- site wall. As spectators watched with little hope, the ball went through the basket without touching the rim. Some fans have even mistaken the shot for a pass. For several minutes the fans, including Oakwood's were completely stunned They then aughed at and cheered the unbeheveable shot of BIG JIM Noon Period OPLN AIR NIARKI-T Xan Vlert Ohio Thi lwscnhoufr Nlanufacturlng, Company Xan Wert Ohio 'VIIDDLL POINT BANK Middle Point Ohio DI NDPI' TRI Ck IINI' IINC Telephone 3364 Nlonroe St Kan Wert 37 ,,,,.'..wv1'+?
