PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE .gf . TO THE SENIORS OF 1957 The sands of time run through the hour glass in a never ending stream. An eventful hour was checked on September 4, 1956-8:10 A.M., when the Class of 1957 started on the last mile of its high school career on which the sands of time will run out at 8:30 P.M., May 13, 1957. Now again, soon, it will be time for each of you to start the hour glass on another iourney-that iourney of living in this world that we live in with the sands running out in success or failure- happiness or sadness-acceptance or reiection, by standards set by society and yourselves. Your teachers over the past 12 years have endeavored to train each of you to be ready for this iourney and its responsibilities through education. As your Principal, I believe education is the essence of the democratic hope and that education keeps alive the aspirations of every person that he and his children will have an opportunity to improve his lot. I also believe that education is the substance of freedom-the inquiring mind-the searching spirit-the quest for new frontiers-all these are the basic forces for freedom. With integrity and honesty as watchwords, the search for truth is ever to be encouraged. I believe that educa- tion is the means of the individual's cultural and spiritual fulfillment. Man does not live by bread alone but through the cultivation of his fellow men and deeper devotion to his God. I believe every student has a creative spark and the development of this spark is your most sacred task. This spark makes you truly human-gives continuity to existence and gives hope for the future. Ultimately man remains a secret to him- self. Man sees himself only in manifestations, not as an essence. Perhaps this spark indicates that nothing is impossible if each of you Seniors will have the necessary patience and intelligence to face the iourney you are about to start. I wish to congratulate you for such a fine iob done on this yearbook. May it in the future bring back the fond memories of your iourney through Madison-Marion Consolidated School. With kindest personal regards and best wishes for everything that is good and honorable to each of you in the SENIOR CLASS of 1957. I remain- Your Friend Maze-Law VINCENT R. GUENTHER, Principal ?
