Tennessee THE HALL OF Craft Shop Science Building Hiwassee college, located two miles north- east of Madisonville , Tennessee, was founded by a group of local Methodist preachers in March of 1849. The college was loosely connected with the M. E. Church South until 1867 when it became a part of the Holston Conference. The college is in the center of a 400 acre farm owned by the college. It is near the Great Smokies and is in the heart of the T. V. A. chain of lakes. Both the faculty and the student body enjoy the good hunting and fishing facilities of this fine location. During the past few years many improve- ments have taken place at Hiwassee, and the college is beginning to feel the vigor and confidence that comes with young Lawrence Hall KNOWLEDGE maturity- for the college is reaching adult- hood. A few of the many buildings that have been added to the physical plant with- in the last ten years are: a new girl ' s dormitory, c raft building , six faculty homes, and other buildings connected with the college and farm. A new dining hall is also in the process of being constructed which will add to the comfort and welfare of the students. Spiritual growth at Hiwassee College, we feel confident, will take its place among the leading institutions :or the development of moral and in- te.lectual capacities of its students. Girls ' Dormitory Gymnasium Brunner Hall 3 DEDICATION To these three young people whose lives were claimed in an unfortunate accident, and who have left an eternal monument on Hiwassee campus because of their friendliness, happy dis- position, and loyalty to the school, this annual is lovingly dedi- cated. 4 ANNUAL Sue Creech, Asst. Do you recall the team? How everyone held his breath when Chig was hurt? And when he kissed Jackie, the Homecoming Queen? How long the bell rang the night we beat Maryville-again-and Tennessee Wesleyan (the first time)? The big Homecoming signs — and how good it was to see everybody back? And then there was the Fall Festival where the Ag. boys showed us a good time. Remember how surprised everyone was when Mary Anne and Cotton walked down the aisle after church? And the Halloween party, where ghost Groseclose mystified everybody for most of the evening -- and the food was delicious? The student body held elections and Frank Nelson was elected to the Council and Senior class while Bruce Watt leaded the Freshmen and Gene Jones the High School and who will ever forget how Rev. Chilcote stirred us to new evels during Religious Emphasis week? Remember how quiet and beautiful the place of dedication was, on that ast night? and then how those first exams hit? but how wonderful it was to go home for the weekend? And then tragedy struck-and the whole school mourned for Claudette, Kester and Avery, but carried on-Finally the Christmas season came, with carols and festivity in the air. Remember the dinner by candle light the night before we went home and Big Jim Henderson as Santa Claus, urging Vandy to be his Little Helper ? and the boys stayed until TWELVE o ' clock! Home for two short glorious weeks — Back with a whole list of New Year ' s Resolutions, including the one to study more; some of us kept them. Mr. Raper and his F.T.A. really pushed the annual plans on through and it seemed we grinned for days at Mr. Cash’s camera. Remember the basketball team — How we beat Maryville 84-83 That shot Don Brown made at Tennessee Wesleyan from the other end of the court? And were you at the Valentine Banquet? Didn’t everyone look nice, and wasn ' t the dining hall transformed? Spring came to Hiwassee, intensifying the romances already on the campus. It felt wonderful to sit outside again, didn ' t it? The quarter seemed so short. The ball team played some terrific games. Graduation came too soon, and our sophomores seemed very dignified in their caps and gowns -- The year was over BASKETBALL Hiwasee 64 LMU Frosh 82 Hiwassee 67 Maryville 70 58 Young Harris 57 59 U. T.
