He took a small squad of green material and developed it into a winning ball team. He was handi- capped by lack of material, and played the whole season with five backfield men. In spite of all these difficulties, this was the most successful season in the history of the school. CAPTAIN ASTHMA JOHNSON Asthma led his team through many hard-fought games to the most success- ful year in the football history of H. C. Playing all of every game at end, he showed courage and leadership, which brought him success as a captain. The opposing backfield men soon learned that it was useless to try to run around his end. ( EARL CURLY GRANT Curly played every game at the fullback position. His terrific line plunging stood out in every game and made his opponents fear him. We are sorry to lose Earl for next year. FRANK HUSH McBRIDE A successful team always has a dependable center. Frank ' s accurate passing gave the team added confidence. This was Hush ' s last year of play for H. C. JOHN YOUELL John is a fighting little tackle, who can fill that position on cither side of the line well. We hope to have John back next year for a good season. EARL MOSE MOSER Mose is a dashing halfback, who made a specialty of off-tackle plays and passing. In view of his superlative playing and excellent qualities of leadership, he was chosen to captain the team next year. WALLACE SMITH Wallace played his tackle position this year in grand style. His fighting qualities and determination made him a great year. This was his last year playing for H. C. 51 CAMPBELL APIE HARMON Apie is a plunging halfback. He was on the receiving end of that famous Mosier- to-Harmon pass. Apie ended his career at old H. C. with a wonderful game against T. M. I. HOWARD HAM HAMM Ham was the lightest man in the line, and played end. He was a good defensive man, few gains being made over him. We hope to have Ham with us next year. J. A. JAY YOUELL Jay is an ideal tackle, who puts everything into the game and fights gamely to the last down. He is strong, fast, and as hard to shake as the rock of Gibraltar. We hope to have him with us next year. RALPH SLEEPY WADE Sleepy is a natural-born quarterback, who displayed wonderful judgment at all stages of the game. He was chosen Assistant Captain for next year. MASON BUD STEWART Bud is West Virginia ' s contribution to our team. He certainly showed us how left guard should be played. Bud will be with us next year. 52 PRETTY FAWN DEMING DICK FAWBUSH This was Dick ' s second year on the team. He was changed from fullback to guard this year, and had a wonderful year. Dick will be missed next year. GEORGE BUSTER KING Buster played the position of guard in fine style. He covered his part of the line like a blanket, and few gains were made over him. He will be back next year. RAY FAWBUSH Ray was a rangy end, who was very adept at snagging passes out of the air. He is also a good defensive man. Ray will be with us next year for a bigger and better season. VASTINE TEEN WILDSMITH Teen is a dodging, twisting, side-stepping halfback from Alabama. He is a hard tackier, and, best of all, he can play any position in the backfield. KENNEDY NEELEY, Manager BASEBALL SQUAD STAFF C. T. Miller Coach Sam McCoxnell ...  « „ . .
