Ever ready to re- spond to invitations to visit, she shows great interest in all activities. She is particularly proud of the school library which she has help to build through gifts of books. During a visit she is pictured sharing the excitement of in- specting a new shipment of books. Mr. L. E. Orrick, Di- rector of Visual Education and of Library Services, Mrs. Crouch and Mr. Neal add their ap- proval. Because of her many contri- butions to civic cause, Mrs. Led- ford is well known in Wichita Falls. She has served on the city council, on the local Board of Education, and on many com- mitties in her church. It can be said of her that she has al- ways been aware of the needs of others. Sfrcfut ut t WE ARE THE HUSKIES . . . COULDN ' T BE PROUDER The anticipation of an exciting game, the pride of placing first in competition and the joy of being a part of such a wonderful school, caused these words to resound throughout the halls of Hirschi this year. New freshmen took up this cry of veteran Huskies and soon learned its meaning . . . determination to do our best and to bring pride and glory to Hirschi through all we do. e J r TW 7{ a Richard Leland Allmon Robert Fred Arbuckle Marvin James Ball, Jr. Kathryn Eileen Basham Ronald Daniel Bell Arthur James Bennett Gary Allen Blodgett Elizabeth Ann Boone Gar) ' Lee Bosz Karen Faye Self Boyle Linda Kay Bradley Glenda Willine Brightwell James Merton Bristow Mareta Carol Britton Joan Lynn Brooks Michael Paul Brown Sharon Janan Brown Herbert Wayne Buster Deanna Gay Camp Harry Virgil Carlson Larry Ray Case Jesse Richard Chambers, Jr. Rosalyn Frances Clapsaddle Curtis Lee Cooper, Jr. Judith Louise Cooper Bruce Robert Coulombe Patricia Ann Crowley Betty Annette Culberson Linda Sue Davenport Leslie Allen Davis Bobby Gene Estrada Pamela Jane Ewing Linda Nell Fenner Mercedes Florez, Jr. Leonard Frankenberg Rita Jane Frost Thomas Eugene Frost Bobby Dee Fudge Craig Louis Garner Suzanne Elizabeth Garner Theodore Paul Gideon James Lynn Gilmore Dorothy Darlene Hafemeister Linda Faye Hamilton Michael Lynn Harlan Carolyn Joyce Harmon Landis Diane Harmon Sheryl Estes Harrison Linda May Hayes Karen Lucile Hiller Patsy Lanell Holloway Opal Elizabeth Isaacs Wayne Harr)- Johnson Richard Dennis Kindred Jimmy Roland Kirksey Sharron Ann Kissinger Donna Jean Lanning Patricia Lynn Little Edward William Loftis Ronald Michael London Ronnie Eugene McAda Gerry Lee McAninch Hazel Elizabeth McMurray Helen Charlene Martin Sandra Kay Mayer Efrain M. The traditional tree was trimmed by members of the senior class. Doors were decorated with yuletide scenes by all homeroom classes, and the Music Department heralded the coming vacation with a final Christmas program which inspired the feeling of joyful anticipation. 10 eei TW 7 M S ' NBfv RL KtJ i kiflKr H -r ' --Ji . Willingness to work hard to reach a goal, a factor which has been instilled in the members of these departments, will remain as a part of their character throughout their lives. e vi 7 ' «« 13 7 W TOcu Undoubtedly lunch was the most eagerly anticipated period of THE YEAR THAT WAS. The mad rush started by each lunch bell might have made a visitor think the Olympics were not being held in Japan but in the halls of Hirschi. However, the meals, carefully pre- pared in the spotless kitchen and displayed within easy reach of the students, was well worth the rush. 15 4 XC€t CH t e«w ' 7 W 7i M Racing pulses and surging hearts await report card day. A week of cramming, extra work, grade averaging and worry lead up to that fateful Tuesday every six weeks. Some face it with confidence, others with dread. The thought of taking grades home unnerves some, and the relief of making the honor rolls fills others with joy. Always resolutions follow to do better next time ... to study harder ... to pay more attention in class. 17 4ctco€t iti t 1 e«iw T-W 7( M Action was filled with suspense and delight in THE YEAR THAT WAS. Keeping pace with the Hirschi winning tradition in all school sports, game after game spelled victory for the Huskies. Cooperation and sportsmanship played an important role in this year ' s sports story and made the competition more fun and exciting for those who played and for the twelfth man who stood on the sidelines to watch and to yell. ■m. 6Am w I % i 20 4cUHU€C t iatCOH 21 4cUHiHc tn€UofU 0( ien €C o School Our administration carries out the duties necessary for a school system to work on a smooth and efficient plane. Coach Jess Stiles is the i, HUSKY selection for the COACH-OF-THE-YEAR in THE YEAR THAT WAS Captains Hihler. laulkne and King. THE YEAR THAT WAS playeci host to the Huskies ' most victorious and ex ' citing football season. Underrated and against tremendous odds the Huskies began the season with a great victory over an old rival — 19-0. Losing to Eisenhower and Iowa Park did nothing to daunt the spirits of the team; when Quanah and Vernon tried their tactics against the underdogs, they met with a powerful, rugged, determined team. The scores proved the determination: 30-8 and 27-0 respectively. The Coleman game prepared the Huskies for their next big victory. Against Brownwood, with the newly named twelfth man backing them all the way, the Huskies earned the name GIANT KILLERS as they fought the Lions hard and close for a 22-20 victory. A Graham loss and a Burkburnett win made district champs of the Huskies and paved the way for an action packed Bi-District win over the highly favored Sweetwater Mustangs. The Andrews quarter-final game proved an exciting challenge to the still underrated Huskies. Charging past the Mustangs with a 14-0 victory demonstrated their great ability even against the toughest odds. Wi th the State Championship in mind, the Huskies prepared for the semi- final game against Palestine. The team had a favorable rating, desire and determination, plus the backing from fans all across North Texas. The Wildcats were a big team, but with splendid effort and magnificent stamina the Huskies scored and led the game for three quariers. Size began to tell in the fourth quarter; but with a never-say-die attempt, the Huskies held their own until the final play of the game. It was over; but the Huskies went down as true champions, as they fell before the Palestine Wildcats in the concluding second of a never-to-be-forgotten contest. It was a thrilling season for THE YEAR THAT WAS, and we are quite proud of the accomplishments of the 1964-65 HUSKY team. kli V Manager Wayne Rogers 119 Row tour: Ak-i Ruriioz, Pcic F.Kiron, Uon Kin , Miuon, HiIult, Kc.iin.c l-juiKiicr, Row Three: Tim Lillard, Chuck Pearson, William Shaw, Mike Fr -, Sidney McDonald, Row Two: Otis Gibbons, John McKinlej- David Str achaa ,„KMUifLFaulkner, Row One: Danny Griffin, Roy Rooker, Riocy MearsHjeorge Downing; 4 i 4 Seme- 120 .
