It is now just one hundred years since Chicago opened the doors of its first public high school to provide higher education for its future citizens. Since then, the burgeoning city of those early days has grown into a great world-metropolis, and its public high schools have become part of this phenomenal development. From those pioneer days, through a history-transcending century, this branch of our municipal educational system has been dutifully ministering to the needs of the youth of our ever expanding city with a faithfulness as true, and as fine as that which distinguishes today's almost flawless recordings of the most intricate and delicate sounds. This continuous, century-long record of constancy of our Chicago public high schools in serving youth, has prompted us to entitle our 1957 yearbook M94 Zglehy 4 .

DEDICATION After fifteen years resplendent in faithful, devoted service-years that will be forever golden in the annals of Hirsch-and after a lifetime of ceaseless labor in the ever unfinished field of education, with the closing of school this June comes the retirement of our beloved principal Miss Marie A. McCahey, upon the completion of a long and brilliant career in the public schools of Chicago as a teacher and principal, in both elementary and high school divisions. Hirsch first knew Miss Mcffahey as a teacher. and later welcomed her returning as principal. Her high ideals and zealous concern for Hirsch, im- plemented by dynamic qualities of leadership and personality mingled with a genuine kindness of heart and sympathy of understanding. always brought us achievement and distinction with satisfaction and happiness, and merited for her the true affection and sincere admiration of students and faculty. as well as the community's acclaim and the Commendation of the school system at large. In parting, as a small farewell token of our esteem and appreciation, we respectfully and very properly dedicate to Miss Mcflahey our 1957 yearbook, whose theme High Fidelity' bespeaks so well her entire life. mia a mafclzdaa holedfy agifaya no lzegofufg gui ing uri on 5
