Like the unseen yet mighty force which keeps the earth in its orbit, fidelity holds our 'separate world of Hirsch High School in its orderly, progressive course. High Fidelity, then, is a happy choice for the theme of the 1957 Maroonq It has special significance to me since it marks my fifteenth and final year as principal of Hirsch High School. The successful completion of each year of the fifteen has been made possible by the high fidelity of all my co-Workers: the faculty, the students, our two librarians, the office staff, the truant oflicer, the R.O.T.C. personnel, the lunchroom manager and workers, our matron, our carpenter, and the engineer and his maintenance staff. All have faithfully Worked to prove true the con- viction that education is one of men's most Worthwhile and fruitful pursuits. When I became principal of Hirsch in November, 1942, our country was at war. It would have been easy to push the importance of gaining a sound education into the background under the stress of wartime demands. But Hirsch's personnel took on the tasks of aiding our country's ,Wartime efforts and faithfully continued with their labors to provide and acquire learning. When peace was Won, Hirsch's family, instead of relaxing and becoming indolent, turned to new jobs to be done. The need to cope with the turmoil of a world in change certainly demanded devotion to our ideal that through education our most difficult problems can be solved. A wise man long ago said that the principal thing for man to do is to get wisdom and understanding. As each year unfolds the truth of this statement becomes more evident. The Welfare and progress of mankind are best served by education through which we get Wisdom and under- standing. My years at Hirsch have been most satisfying. The High Fidelity of all with whom I have Worked has made them so. My sincere wish is that all who become associated with Hirsch in its purpose to give good educational experiences will continue to serve our school, our community and our nation with High Fidelity. MARIE A. MCCAHEY L16

Among the many festivities arranged at Hirsch was Parents' Night, when all Hirsch High turned out to join in common tribute to the educational achievement of the I Will city. In Welcome Hall stood a huge cake designed by the Art depart- ment, effectively proclaiming the jubilance of the occasion to all beholders.
