MISS COSGROVE i Sponsor As we step upon the stage on the night of graduation, our thoughts will probably wander back to our last important high school years. Happy incidents will crowd our memories - the victorious football seasons, the un- forgettable Clubs, the truly inspiring Christmas spirit at Hirsch, Casey's, crowded lockers, our teachers, our division, the noise in the halls at passing time, the tense moment before exams, not to mention that magic night of Iune 8 at the Edgewood Valley Country Club, our class breakfast, and now - Graduation. But most of all, we will remember Senior division, where Bob Simmons helped wield the gavel with the aid of Vice-President Carol Gregg, Secretary Dorothy Morgan, Treasurer Sid Kaz, and Social Chairman Liz Berkenstock. When we graduate, we will find ourselves beginning a new life with new hopes and aspects, but we will never forget the fun, friends, and problems of our own high school days. Lunehroom ,Aides Through the tireless efforts of these boys and girls, our lunchroom staff is greatly assisted in its Work of keeping our lunchroom clean and pleasant. R. Iohnson, S. Lettiere, C. Fraclick, T. McNulty. Kneeling: G. Klczire. 1 HIRSC FOOTBALL TEAM With the return ot six letter men, a host ot last year's reserves, and some good new material, Coach O'Brien, better known to most as UO. B. , set to work with a determination to turn out a team better than last year's. ln the weeks which preceded the opening game, UO. B. sent his team through many hours of gruelling practice. With every practice the team looked better, and as the opening game with Argo grew near, the Maroon and White machine showed the results ot UG. B.'s ability to instill tight and determination into his boys, Argo was the first to be knocked down. Although they were heralded as a good team, the Huskies came out the vic- tors, ZU to 6. Next to be tackled was Calumet. Without our two co- captains, Richard Bruno and Alex Nelson, we saw a tough game end in a knot, 7 up. Out-classing South Shore by a defeat ot seventeen points, we moved to the hardest game of all - Fenger. They proved to be strong even in bad weather. Our boys, in spite of poor weather conditions, however, played one of the best games of the year, only to lose by a small margin, 6 to U. Running over Harper, then Bowen, Cin which most people think Richard Bruno played his best gamel, we ended our winnings for the year. The loss of the last two games was inconsequential if each boy learned good sportsmanship and the value oi clean competition, which is the greatest gain ot all. HUSKIE 41025 ,-A 5 I it 1 Q :xwff . Although both teams had a good combination of offense and defense, Lady Luck often failed to give them those few quick ones necessary to win. Besides making a good showing in regular competition, the Iunior team made a bid for honors in the city tour- nament, and the Seniors put up a hard but losing battle against mighty Mc- Kinley in the Tech Tournament. Graduation took some of the punch out of the boys when the Iuniors lost two of their top scorers, Tom Kapsalis and Ken Briggs. The Seniors also suf- fered by the loss of Warren Walski, a first stringer, but both teams came through with an impressive record and a lot of experience toward a cham- pionship year next year. Every member of both teams was a star in his own right,' each Contributing to the success of the team as a whole. However, Tom Derick of the Senior Team was especially outstanding and earned for himself a position on both the South Section and City Teams. 4111y ..
