Clieserve Officers' Training Corpsl is known to be one of the most outstanding units in the city. As this book goes to press, these boys are training for the annual Federal lnspection, For eleven years - in tact, since our inception in l937 - We have held an honor rating, and although Hirsch is one ot the smallest high schools in the city, it has a record which should make the others envious. There is always a reason tor success, and ours is through the combined efforts of our diligent instructors, Captain Wall, and Sergeants Alexander and Burns. Together with Major Ed Gurganus, they are hoping for another high rating at this latest inspection. THE R.O.T.C. Wm. COMPANY A Row I: B. Barboro. E. Gur- ganus. B. Kalthofl. Row Z: A. Peitengell. W. MAKING FOOTBALL HISTORY The many victories of our fighting Huskies in 49 will long be cherished in our memory. Few will soon forget how our star-studded football team fought to triumph for Ole Hirsch High. Good teams mean hard work, but the taste of victory is sweet, and the student-body of Hirsch tasted it often during the past year. This year our hard charging team posted the finest record in the history of Hirsch. ln our practice games, we first tied l2-12 with Kelly, and on the following Saturday, we beat C.V.S., 14-6, Our first league game turned out to be a disastrous tie with Hyde Park, 19-19. Harper was our first victim, 14-7, in our five game victory string. This was followed by the immortal 6-U victory over South Shore, and then a 3940 rout of Bowen. Parker and Calumet were easy victims, 26-O and 25-O, to our superior team. Although it was a great season, with a break here or there we could have had a city championship. Twice, in the Hirsch-Hyde Park game and the Morgan Parkfenger games, we were only two feet from this charnpione ship when the game ended. Special mention is in order for Iack Stoudt and Bill Parker, who were chosen for the All-City Team. Our success, however, is due mainly to Mr. Bernard O'Brien, who coached his team to an undefeated season and second place in the South Section, I, N, I! f 52 1?
