For those boys wishing to take a technical course in preparation for a trade, woodshop, electric shop, print shop and mechanical drawing are offered. Girls desiring to graduate in a four-year household arts course are required to take sewing, cooking, home management and costume designing. I Office Force The clerical work at Hirsch is done by an efficient force consisting of Mrs. Gertrude Kuehn, Mr. Nichelson's secretary and the senior clerkg Miss Alice Conway, in charge of the center ofiice and Miss Mary Alice Conroy in charge of the record ofiice. Commercial students are appointed by the head of the Commercial Department to assist in the oHice. They aid in filing and attend to the switchboard and for this receive a minor credit.

N Art Department . As well as the one year of art that is required of everyone, the art department of Hirsch sponsors two major credit subjects-advanced art and art appreciation-which are both one semester courses. The main purpose of these courses is to cultivate an appreciation of beauty, to develop a power to produce beautiful things, and to discover and direct the talent of the students. Music Department ' Every student is required to earn two minor credits in music and he may do this by taking two semesters of music or by substituting a year of Choral Club, Glee Club, Band or Orchestra. A major credit is given to any pupil who has completed two or more semesters above the required year. The main purpose of these courses is to provide opportunities for intelligent appreciation of good music. Physical Education Department The aim of Hirsch's physical education department is to provide skilled leadership and adequate facilities that afford an opportunity for the individual to act in situations that are physically whole- some, mentally stimulating, satisfying and socially sound. Girls' gym classes are divided into two teams and are instructed in hockey, soccer, captain basket- ball, basketball, volleyball and baseball.
