Hats off to the Class of '85 President of NHS Marek Dzianott aids Mike Anderson in building the NHS float, Sunny Parade Mhth memories of last year's rained out pa- rade, parade participants watched the gray, over- cast sky and prayed. An hour before starting time, cars and floats were being prepared in the football parking lot. Just as the parade was begin- ning the sun broke through the clouds and shone brighthf on the path of the parade. Even though there was construction being done on Clarendon Hills Road the parade still took its traditional route. ln the lead was a Tri- State hre truck followed by the parade marshal Pom Pon squad and the Hornet band. Next came all the club cars, class floats, feeder school bands, and the Homecoming Queen Roberta Du- chak and her court: Debbie Ogen, Karen Kozak, Tami Satlen Kelly Kowalski, Kim Steadman, Sue Brescia, Laverne Mclfinnon, Sue Lambert Faith Borkovec. The parade went smoothhf except for one time when it became badly divided. For a while, there appeared to be two separate parades. All club and class entries were judged, The FSA entry won in the club category, while the class of '83 's float took first place in that category. After Q17 marching band entertains the crowd with their musical talent. Yung-Chu Kim enhances the Science Club float. the parade and the traditional drive around the football held the class floats were torn to pieces and the remains were left overflowing from the trash bins. Expectant eyes watch the football held Finalhf, the players enter - but the y 're not wearing helmets. The y 're wearing mortarboards. Some of the players are thinking of the last four years of their lives spent at South. 0thers think of the last few days, the years of college ahead the party after graduation, or the people they may never see again after this evening. The members of the class have decided that they want to graduate outside. Now, as the ceremony begins, the sun shines beautifulhf and the decision seems to ha ve been a good one. The graduates-to-be ha ve marched onto the held and are taking their seats in the center of it. They are far away from the bleachers and it is difhcult for the audience to see the faces of the class mem- bers. All sit quietly as Chris Hill Debbie Muellen Dr. Thorsen, and Dr. Dalpiaz speak. Hnally, the class is called up, one by one, to receive their diplo- mas. Among the class members is Variety Show star Chuckles the Clown.
