The Hornets Are 1! 'The team was there to win and wouldn't accept anything but the state championship, said Coach Lindley. And indeed the team won the championship game against Springheld-Grifhn, 5- 2. But the most memorable game was the win against Joliet Catholic last year in the same sectional championship, so the victory was sweet revenge. But there were a lew games in which defeat seemed inevitable, such as the .lst quar- terhnals against Morton West who was winning 6-0 in the .lst inning but the Hornets came baclr and won the game 9-Z The team played togeth- er as a unit not as individuals, said Coach Lindley. This was not a team which had one star playen' many were star players. Players on the All- Tournament team were Scott lones, lim lure- vis, Mike Labedz, Bill Lavery, and Howard Patton. Bobby Miller and Scott Jones became All-State players. Special mention should go to lurevis, who pitched and won two of the three tourna- ment games lincluding the championshipi, and Scott Jones, who was chosen the tournaments most valuable player.
