The strong 440 relay team consisting of Andy Ferguson, George McDaniel, Dennis Stejskal, and Dale Hufstedler placed 1st in the district meet and second in the state meet. The Hornet Baseball team won their 3rd District championship in school history with victories over Lyons Township, R-B. and St. Joseph, before losing to a strong Proviso West in the regional tourna- ment. Jeff Rabold set a school record for homeruns. Larry Heiden recorded 71 strike outs in 73 innings on the mound. Ernie Hatchell proved himself the finest batter in school history based on total hits, averages, and fewest strike outs in his three year varsity career. The Hornets were successful in over 80% of their base stealing attempts with junior Jack Holt stealing 16 bases in 16 attempts. 23
