Cross Country Has Good Season The cross country team had a fine first season. Of nine dual meets, the team won four and lost five. The freshman team ended up in fifth place of eight teams in the Des Plaines Valley Conference. The team came in sixth of 17 at the Maine West Invitational. At the York Invitational they placed fifth out of 14 teams. The freshman-sophomore team entered the DuPage County Invitational and came in ninth from twelve teams. NOT A BAD RECORD-Cooch Charles LeCrone looks over his notes for the year on the cross country team.

Football Team Has Winning First Year The Hornets of Hinsdale South carried the colors of black and gold through a victorious first season. Their record for the season was six wins and two losses. Most of their opponents were from the Mid-suburban League. The scores in the winning games were Prospect, 12-6, Maine West 14-6, Deerfield 27-6, Conant 27-0, Forest View 29-7, Wheeling 21-6. They lost to New Trier 7-18 and to Palatine 0-7. WATCH OUT! There ore many anxious moments for coaches as they watch from the sidelines. Coach Ed Puck (standing) seems a bit more disturbed than Coaches Chuck Shrader and Paul Atkinson.

The only experienced player, Dan Meyers, was out with a broken leg the first half of the season. The team finished strong- ly in the Des Plaines Valley Conference in spite of this disadvantage. The boys playing leading roles were Fred Mattlin, Marc Mattlin, Jim Fanning, Dan Meyers, Randy Heern, Frank Taylor, and Larry Burton. They will be leading candidates for HTHSS's first varsity team.
