High Participation Sparks GAA Sports Tennis, volleyball, swimming, and bowling are a few of the sports that the Girls' Athletic Association spon- sors. Any girl interested in athletics may participate. Officers volunteered to run for their positions and were elected by members. Most of the freshman and sophomore girls are members of this group and par- ticipate in one of the sports. Class representatives are elected by their gym class. Miss Sylvia Matczak, physi- cal education teacher, sponsors all their activities. OVER MY HEAD--EllieSheehy, Miss Matczak, and Etta Pruett scramble for the ball in a GAA volleyball game.

40 Guards Work At Swimming Events Excellence, enthusiasm, service is the motto of the Hinsdale South Guard Organization. This group of forty girls and boys are both sopho- mores and freshmen. Their main assignments are guarding at school swim functions, officiating at home swim meets, teaching physical education classes, and instructing Saturday swim school. They also presented a guard swimming show in the spring. New guards are chosen in their freshman year on the basis of lifesaving and aquatic ability. DUTY ROSTER-Solly Johnson prepares list of guard duty for the bulletin board. Spanish Christmas Is Party Theme The first activity of the newly organized Spanish Club was a Spanish Christmas party. The party was Mexican in tradition including the break- ing of a pinata. Fruit and candy poured out of the pinata when it was broken open. Mrs. Barbara Novak, Spanish teacher, organized the club. WHERE IS IP Ray Gatz gets first shot at breaking open the pinata at the Spanish club Christmas party.
