Homerooms Select Student Councilors John Castings was elected president of the Student Council early in the year, and his first official duty was a part in the dedication program of the school. The Hinsdale South Student Council is composed of one member from each freshman and sophomore homeroom. An alternate was also elected to serve when the regular representative could not be present. Besides projects of school service, the group has sponsored school mixers, and other money raising projects. Writing the council constitution has been a big task of one committee.

Concerts, Contests Attract Band, Choir The band and choir gave their first combined con- cert in December at the Lace Elementary School. A Christmas program was presented as a school as- sembly and also for parents in an evening concert. Several music clinics and concerts at other schools were attended by members of the music groups. In the spring, a music festival and contests occupied most of their time. Outstanding members were honored with awards at the end of the year, and three musicians will attend summer camp at the University of Illinois.

40 Guards Work At Swimming Events Excellence, enthusiasm, service is the motto of the Hinsdale South Guard Organization. This group of forty girls and boys are both sopho- mores and freshmen. Their main assignments are guarding at school swim functions, officiating at home swim meets, teaching physical education classes, and instructing Saturday swim school. They also presented a guard swimming show in the spring. New guards are chosen in their freshman year on the basis of lifesaving and aquatic ability.
