A SIGHT FOR SORE EYES . . . Joyce Robinson, Carol Begley, ond Debbie Owen put on a skit at pep assembly. Sophs Are Tops; Drills Spice Days The first few weeks in the new school were quite different from the first weeks in on old school. Fresh- men still had to get used to high school, but here sophomores had a new experience. They were the big kids and would be for the next three years. The confusion gradually subsided, however, and stu- dents picked up the routine of classes, homerooms, lunch, and more classes. Fire drills brightened the days occasionally, especially when some classes didn't receive a notice to Disregard the bells. Some had three or four drills in one day. Another surprise came when Mr. Murrary announced, ’False alarm, false alarm. Return to your classes, and the outside doors were locked, leaving several classes out in the cold.

Opening Days Were Sometimes Hectic Opening day at Hinsdale South proved to be a hectic one. Painters, carpenters, electricians and plumbers mingled with students. Many classes met in alternate rooms because equipment was being installed in the regular classroom. No one seemed to know where the auditorium or homerooms were, and some wondered it they should go to the auditorium tor homeroom. Atter the assembly conducted by Mr. Murray, every- one felt a little more confident, because they realized that a great deal of preparation and planning had been done by the staff before they arrived. HM-M-M-M . . . MR. BUFORD DANIELS, assistant principal, sizes up the student body entering the gym for a pep rally.

TOUCHDOWN, TOUCHDOWN . . . scream the cheerleaders from the sideline of a home game. Pictured ore Rena Moyers, Lisa Knight, Mary Wisniewski, and Char Brown. HINSDALE SOUTH, LET'S GO . . . Students sing the school song at pep roily in the gym. Pep Rallies, Mixers Sports Get Started By October Hinsdale South was beginning to re- semble a normal high school with mixers, pep rallies, assemblies, and football games (even though they did start at such an unbelievable hour on Saturday morn ings.) Cheerleaders practiced, tried out, and were selected by a committee of faculty and students. A new school song was composed and learned, although many had to look on copies at the first pep rallies. Cross Country and football were followed by winter sports. Records in all these events showed great progress for a first-year school.
