Giarusso (vice-president), K. White (secretary), K. Manning (president), K. Harkins (treasurer) This year we, as seniors, have worked very hard to raise funds to meet our var- ious end of the year costs. We were lucky to be allowed to run the concession stand for the season ' s first football game, as well as for the homecoming game. Throughout the last week of October we sold chocolate pumpkin lollipop mes- sages. We also sold candy bars during the weeks of November 9th and 16th. However, the biggest fundraiser so far this year was work day in which students raked leaves, earning money for the class. In order to help pay for the year- books, the senior prom, and graduation caps and gowns, it was necessary for us to continue at the rate we started out at. We want to thank you all for constantly being there to help in these endeavors. Other successes this year included the dating service in which we found out who our real soul mates are, the talent show in which we were able to recognize the true talents of the students of H.H.S., the Class of ' 88 t-shirts which we will all be able to enjoy during our extra longi summer vacation this year, and the class photos which we will all treasure for years to come. Our eyes are tired with empty looks, we see blank pages of unfinished books, our struggles to keep our spirits high are futile when our best friends die. And never may we see the day when thoughts of them don ' t come our way. Yet we shall always feel them near and know their message to us is clear- that though our emotions hold us down only love can make the world go ' round. A rea- sonably young squad, the team had some outstanding performances. Led by Junior co-captains Cindy Willis and Faith Frary the girls tackled strong opponents. Most Notably overpowering defending league champion Marshfield in a close 28-27 meet. Hingham had Christina Finlay elected to the Old Colony League all-star team for the second year in a row as well as rank- ing three league honorable mentions for Freshman Jen Sanford, Sophomore Stephanie Margetts, and Junior Faith Frary. All of the girls gave meritous perfor- mances and look forward to even more success in the seasons to come. THANKS MR. RYAN! GREAT SEA- SON GUYS! 80 Mr. Ryan, coach, L. Thaxterm, C. Coccio, C. Led by captains Steve Gregoire and Sean Leahy, the team finished third in a very competitive league. Leahy finished in the top ten in the league and went all the way to the state competition, while Gregoire finished in the top thirty. A much improved Junior Matt McCourt finished twelveth, followed by Barry Willis at thir- teenth. A large improvement was also seen in Steve MacDonald, who bettered his time by over two minutes on the home course. Everyone ran well this season, and the impressive performances by underclass- men ensure many more successful sea- sons. B. Synder, J. Kababik, M. Roper, S. MacDonald, J. Messer, B. Willis, M. The team finished with a record of 9-2-5 in the league and an overall record of 11-3-5. After maintaining second place in the Old Col- ony League, they beat their biggest rival, Marshfield, by dominating the quarterfinal in the State Tournament. The competitive Hingham Field Hockey Team played an ex- cellent 1987 season, with three all-stars, Karen Reichenbacher, Jen Camp- bell, and Ellen Donaldson. The team also had two all-league players, seniors Katie White and Jen Mclnnes. Hingham dominated the league in scor- ing, with Ellen Donaldson as league leader and Katie Costello and Jen Campbell tied for third. Overall, this young team had a successful season and looks forward to many more wins. Varsity: K. Hurley, J. Libby, K. Vickery, N. Nelson, H. Parsons, K. White, L. Gratta, M. Costello, K. Though our record was not really good, we were still a strong team. The starting defense was: goally Emily Greenlaw, sweeper captain Kristin Harkins, right fullback Maureen Supple, left fullback Alison Taylor. The defense was very strong this year. Together, we worked hard pulling the off-side trap. The mid-field was controlled by center half- back Leigh-Ann Taylor, with Beckie Games on her left and Claire Higgins on her right. By con- trolling the middle, the mid-field players helped our team to stay in all the games. The front line started with Stacy Sullivan on the right wing, Cara Harries on the left wing, and Katie Delay and Karen McCann on the insi- des. Though the fonward line was young this year, the return players will be strong next season. The seniors on the team this year have helped keep the team together through their contin- ued spirit and dedication. Though not all seniors started, all were a vital part of the team. The following players also remain on varsity: (Seniors) Katherine Beal, Nicole Cummings, Lynn Devin, Kathy Kababik, (Sophomore) Barbara Violandi, (Freshmen) Kristen Con- way, Sue DiMaggio, and Lindsay Griffith. We are confident that the team will return strong next season. Varsity: K. Conway, C. Harries, L. Taylor, S. DeMaggio, K. McCann, L. Griffith, E. Greenlaw, L. lorio, K. Delay, S. Sullivan, A. Pollock 87 Boys ' Soccer The 1987 Boys ' soccer season will go down in infamy. A young team and a tough schedule contributed to the teams record of three wins, ten losses, and four ties. Yet this is not a good indi- cation of the quality of the team. The forward pairing of Dan Michon and Doug Scipione led the team in scoring and were two of the hardest workers on the team. Co-captain Kurt Schuwerk was moved from defense to lend a hand with co-captain Eric Ponichtera in the midfield. On the outside, Jon Ledwick and Peter Kuperstein played very well as did Chris Haskins and Eric Brown. At fullback, the combination of Jay Osier, Rob Ramsey, Bill Lavin and Mark Wolpers provided coverage for third year goalie Kevin Sampson and his backup Matt Pederson. The season was one of ups and downs. Case in point: the first game against last year ' s champions Ply- mouth-Carver ended in a 7-0 loss. In the rematch, however, Hingham gave Plymouth its hardest game in two years, a game Plymouth barely won 3- 2. The season was characterized by tough close games and hard play. In fact, the only element missing from the team was luck. f ? f? J.V.: Coach Mulry, R. Russell, R. Stevens, M. Brennan, G. Winch, T. Murray, B. Hughs, N. Sedaka, B. Delgado, M. Achille, T. Corey, M. The team ' s biggest struggles came against Bridgewater-Raynham, Taunton, Wey- mouth North, and Randolph. Bridgewater and Weymouth went on to capture the league, leaving Hingham in a respectable fifth place. Under the leadership of Doyle, Myers, Giarusso, and Dillon, the team was strong, quick, and ready to hit. Hingham players received several awards. This year football cheerleading was much more enjoyable than in the past two seasons. Throughout the season, there were agreements and disagreements, but we all knew that differences of opinion were sometimes what we needed to make a good squad. After all the quarrels, the team remained unified. We had great show- ings in the state meet and league meet in which we placed third. First year coach, Ms. Pennell, made great use of the team ' s depth and talent in meets and tested our endurance and ability in practice. Everyone performed to full potential and contributed to the team ' s success. Consistently excellent performers in dual league are: (juniors) Nicole DellaVoIpe and Julie Diercks and (senior) Celine Char- niaux in the 50m; (freshman) Jen f lcKenzie and Susie Cannon in the 50m hurdles; (junior) Stacy Sullivan and (freshman) Bonnie Howe in the 300m and high jump; (senior) Kristina Kovatch (co-captain) in the shotput; (junior) Kathy Shaw, (senior) Rebecca Lambert (co- captain) and (freshman) Laura lorio in the 600m; (senior) Kristin Gould and (freshman) Heidi Kutsche in the 1000m, as well as Chris- tina Finlay who took first place in the 1 000m at the state meet, earning the gold medal she de- serves. In the one mile are (sophomore) Lynn Hansberry and (juniors) Laura Reagan and Jen Rapucci; and in the two mile is (junior) Lee Stinson. With the combination of our high hopes, standards, and determination we were easily among the very best teams in the Old Colony League this year. Ms. Pennell, N. DellaVoIpe, B. Howe, A. O ' Mara, L. There is something to be said for this poor showing because only 15 kids came out for the team. The team was led by senior co-captains Rob Ramsey and Sean Leahy. Chris no show Taylor was the final captain, but he did not run this year. Rob long neck Ramsey competed in the shotput and the 50 yard dash. Rob really helped the team a lot by sticking out his neck in a few races. Co- captain Sean the force Leahy competed in the mile and two mile run. Sean was unde- feated in the Old Colony League in both events, and when he stepped into Taunton Field House his opponents became very intim- idated. Senior Steve the arms Gregoire competed in the two mile this past winter. Steve was a big factor in a few meets as he picked up a few points for the Harbormen. Junior Matt McCourt competed in the 600 for Hingham and he showed that he had great leadership abilities. Matt had a great season seeing that he only got beat twice all year and was loved by the entire Girls ' Winter Track team. Senior Dave Big House Mortland was a very big pickup for the Harbormen this sea- son. Dave competed in the shotput and picked up some much needed points for the team. Dave ' s antics on and off the track was very much appreciated by all. S. McDonald, Fillmor, S. Gregoire, A. Sunoki, D. Mortland, E. McCraken, M. McCourt, B. Snyder, C. A young team, they finished a very success- ful season with a record of ten wins, eight losses, and two ties. The strong offense, led by Senior co- captain Dave Rioux succeeded in over- powering opposing defenses in many last-minute, heartstopping power plays to achieve final victories. The capable de- fense, led by Senior co-captain Todd Fithian, kept many an opposing team at bay long enough for Hingham to add an- other win to its record. The strong skills of goalie Aaron Smith was also the key to success in many Hingham games, while offensively. Freshman Rob Canavan was able to maintain the position as team high scorer. The HHS team was further honored by obtaining five spaces on the O.C.L. All- Star team. These players included Todd Fithian, Dave Rioux, Karl Willner (all Se- niors), Junior Aaron Smith, and Freshman Rob Canavan. The captains, Kerry Duffy and Missy Striano were excellent leaders and held the team together through thick and thin. We had our share of thals though, for example, Kerry broke her foot in the middle of the season and wasn ' t able to compete until the last few meets. The team consisted of five seniors, co-captains Kurt Schuwerk and Dan Michon, John Gilbert, Mark Mullen and Mike McCarthy; and Four sophomores; Pat Carnes, Tom Gonsalves, Charles Krastin, and Jason Bologna. Although the team lacked experience, they learned fast and worked well together. Due to the lack of height, the team broke fast which made the games very exciting. The offense was led by Kruty Schuwerk, who had three games with 28 points. The other sources of offense came mainly from Mark Reilly (Mas- sasoit Tournament MVP) and Pat Carnes. Gil- bert and Michon used the three point shot to open up the middle for Schuwerk, Rielly and Carnes. Although Zaccardi did not play much at the start of the season, he worked hard and started in the last four games of the season. Zaccardi added the defense and enthusiasm which the team needed. The team used a vari- ety of set offenses which kept teams off- guard. 106 M. Hurtle, J. Gaspa, C. Campbell, M. Cotsonas, B. Carney, G. Smith, G. Deane, S. Flynn, Coach Perry, M. Taylor, E. Thanks to all who supported and motiva- ted us at each game. Despite this fact, the girls worked hard throughout the sea- son. As we began the season we realized that this would be a rebuilding year as we only had four returning varsity players. The rest of the team, most of which had some experience on J.V., were not used to the type of playing necessary for var- sity. Head coach Charles Green instilled a feeling of team unity with rigorous workouts in the gym well before the start of the season. With this unity the Harbormen went on to have a successful year (twelve wins, six losses) and qualified for the state tournament for the first time in four years. The team was scouted as an offensive squad with the potential to score runs. However, early in the season it was the pitching that won the ball games, with sev- eral shutouts. The bats soon caught fire and were responsible for many of the later wins. The team played in the tough Old Col- ony League which sent four teams to the state tournament. Hingham was ranked in the top ten in the state for most of the sea- son before losing to a good-hitting Xave- rian ball club in the first round of the play- offs. This loss did not take away what the Baseball team accomplished in 1 987, set- ting a mark for more success in the future. i .. . M fcJ J.V.: Coach Magner, C. Iqo, M. Vitti, A. Thornton, M. We won all of our six- teen matches in the regular season, the Old Colony League Championship, the South Sectional Division II Champion- ship, and the Massachusetts State Divi- sion II Championship. Therefore, the 1987 season was full of high ex- pectations. Our returning players were primarily seniors. Sean Kapinski, the number one player, was undefeated in 1986 and 1987. Tom Leary, a four year veteran, was a strong number two player. Jamie Carroll also had a great season. Our doubles teams were strong. The doubles team of Matt Salvetti and Doug Scipone went 20-2 in 1987 and Brant Mehrmann and Jeff Scipione went 22-0 in 1987. With the support of our alternates and Coach Carl Nelson, we made it to the semi-finals of the South Sections with a 17-1 record. However, a tough match with Duxbury ended our hopes of a repeat of 1 986. Eventhough the season ended on a negative note, we plan to have a great season in 1988. Varsity: Coach Nelson, G. Butler, J. After being condemned in 1985, the only use for the old track was practice. The construction of the new facility enhanced the team spirit and attitude. This attitude led to a winning season, but more impor- tant was the enjoyment of participating at home as well as away. 129 130 131 I don ' t want a sandwich, I want a Manwich! Many left the auditorium in tears due to the deeply moving per- formances of Michael Jordan and Becky Herzberg, who played the leading roles of Tony and Maria. Other leads were Jay Muldoon, Jon Metters, Robin Moyer, and John Hess. This year ' s seniors with lead- ing roles were Jamie O ' Neil, Keith Ryan, Lisa McColgan, Missy Mayo, and Kathy Manning. We dominated most of the ac- tivities of the week, including the tug-of- war, the jello-eating contest, the lemon and lime eating contest, and through the talents of Katie White and John Myers, the bread-pushing contest. Our wall, though not voted the best of all three classes, did express much about our class. Decorated with We had the time of our lives theme and covering all aspects of life in Hingham, from windsurf- ing to graduation, it definitely showed in- genuity and deserved to win. Through our remarkable victory at Spirit Week and our behavior at the pep rally, it was clear that the Class of 1988 was, without contest, the most spirited class in the school. 146 hhT oc L 1 0 N ' T sirvr t: , ' . ■I J( i ■k QM ! We embarked on what would be five months of constant headaches and anxieties, no one ever quite knowing how to do things, but always (with help from the ever- vigilant Dick Swiech) learning and cramming to meet our deadlines. What you see before you is the product of hours of work, not always accomplished in a clear state of mind, with our wackiness often adding to our creativity. We, the Editors, sincerely hope you find this book representative of this experience that is called Hingham High School. We would like to thank everyone who helped us in any way, from the typists to the write-up writers, and for the general positive feelings of the whole school toward this project. We hope you all forgive our nagging and interruptions after you see the results of our efforts. We would especially like to thank Mr. Frank Tierney for his expertise and wisdom and for teaching us that if we have a good idea we should just RUN WITH IT! ENJOY! Editors: K. Beal, A. Farrell, R. Earlier in the: year, N.H.S. helped to greet and assist the evaluating team that evaluated H.H.S. this year. Exceptional members sacrificed: their Sunday and various study periods; during the week to assist the evaluators in any way possible and to make their stay, more pleasant. Since January, the society, has been involved in a program to assist the Resource Room with tutorial services. Among other notable activities is the society ' s 5th annual canoe trip through Vermont. The Rough Riders Bob Delise and Ned Baldwin, set a new record for completing the trip in nine days, two hours, and fifteen minutes. This will surely be a tough time to beat. To start a newv tradition, N.H.S. has decided to hold the first annual student-faculty jai-alai tourna- ment this year. Club at Hingham High School is one of the most ac- tive clubs in the school. This year we had a record 250 members — the largest A. F. S. Club in New England. In the A.F.S. Club we learn about foreign countries and cultures, and exchange ideas and e xperiences with the foreign students. Although not all of the foreign students are affiliated with A.F.S., we welcome them all and give them our support. Throughout the year we have many activities. We go on hikes and have Dance-A-Thons for charity. In 1986 half our earnings from the Dance-A-Thon went to Shriner ' s Burn Institute and in 1 987 the earnings went to AIDS Research. We have also done charity work at The Friends Home on Turkey Hill in Hingham. The ski trips we sponsor are always fun and are often new ex- periences for the students, both foreign and American. The highlight of the Club ' s year is the Short-Term Exchange with another town in the United States. About 35-40 students from another A.F.S. Club stay with Hingham students for one week. In return, we stay in their homes for one week later in the year. Past exchanges have included Alcoa, Tennessee in 1986; Berwyn, Pennsylvania in 1987; and this year ' s exchange to Portsmouth, Virginia. We will always remember Chubby Bunny, The Beach Party, rak- ing in sub-zero weather, the famous infamous slides, 20 ques- tions with David as Frank Perdue, the bus trips with Joe, and the making of the ever so popular A.F.S. calendars. Don ' t forget the hoobies! With the wonderful help of our advisor Ms. Gillard the A.F.S. Club is a great success. 162 Officers: D. DiMarino, J. Arena, P. DiMarino, B. Hallett, L. Davis, P. This year Hingham High was lucky jnough to have ten exchange students. pThese students came together to form the first International Students Club at HHS. By selling tickets to basketball games as well as selling candy the club was able to raise enough money to travel to New York City for a trip this Spring. The International Students Club in- cluded: E. Arroyo and S. Rodriguez from Mexico, J. Soto and M. Toledano from Spain, C. Charniaux from France, C Webber from West Germany, D. Marcilio from Brazil, Z. Erkal from the Turkish Re- public of Northern Cyprus, A. Salanova from Argentina, and I. Maman from Israel. The members of the club would like to thank their advisors, Mrs. Gustafson and Mr. Nionakis, for all their help, as well as the students of HHS for their hospitality and friendship. Meetings were held and letters were written for fervent Al mem- bers, in order to protect the human rights of numerous prisoners of conscience, including children held in Iraq and Ethiopia, as well as prisoners of conscience in Zimbabwe and Bulgaria. The response to Amnesty ' s first fund-raiser, the Write-a-thon, was overwhelming and has made further fundraisers and publicity endeavors viable for the upcoming year. A former prisoner of conscience, from Chile, Reverend Torres, visited the school in order to raise student awareness of the human rights violations occurring around the world and promote the good works of Amnesty International. Best wishes to the Class of ' 89 in con- tinuing the fight to preserve human rights around the world. MUfllMM Officers: B. Phifer, A. Hutchinson, K. Butler 164 rench Club Members: B. Sharpe, E. The club held picnics during the fall, movie parties, visited French restaurants, and attended the show Les Mis- erables. The club also took a trip to New York City to sightsee and tour the U.N. All of these activities were funded by a candy sale earlier this year. In April, the French club and Mrs. Flaherty will tour France for nine days. We were very pleased to see the popularity of the club as evidenced by our ever increasing membership. We have done many new things this year. We watched several movies at our president, Kathy Kababik ' s house, including Carmen and Tristana. We continued with traditional activities such as attending ethnic restaurants. We had a great turn out for our trip to EL Torito and a successful excursion to Hingham ' s newest restaurant, Chili ' s. Our members were very active in several causes this year. Our teaching pro- gram was once again a great success and this year we adopted a worthy charity to which we passed on some of the money we were so successful in earning. Finally, we terminated our year with a great cookout pool party which attracted many memb ers, both old and new. This year ' s council boosted moral through its class-spirited activities such as spirit week, winter Olympics, and Mayday fes- tival. The council also made a point of making social concerns aware to the students, as these are issues which directly concern them. Money was raised for AIDS Research, a blood drive was conducted with senior donors under the auspices of the Red Cross Association, as well as an assembly to inform students of the dangers of pollution in Boston Harbor and how it affects the Hingham community. The council also sponsored a nine-year-old foster child from Haiti. Much of the success of this year ' s council was due to a great advisor, Mr. Low, a well bal- anced chain of responsibility, and most importantly, a fine, spirited group of coun- cil members who know what it means to make a difference. front — K. Activities such as candy sales, candy cane mes- sages at Christmas, carnation sales on Valentine ' s Day have helped greatly in raising money for our ever-increasing costs. We are extremely proud of the fact that we won the wall contest during Spirit Week in November, the most prominent award in that event. We, the Class of ' 89, wish the Class of ' 88 the best of luck! The sophomore class officers are Dan Griffith as president, Katie Costello as vice-president, Alison Taylor as secretary, and Caitlin Kelliher as treasurer. Between the officers and the help of the class representatives, we have given a donation to the American Cancer Society, sold candy, sold carnations, and have participated in many if not all school activities. Each member of the class council has put much time and effort into each activity which has helped out the class and the school as a whole immensely. We also play a part in the school-wide Stu- dent Council. It is commonplace that the sophomores have a slow start getting involved in school activities and spirit but it looks as if we are off to an unusually good start. The familiar phrase Friends don ' t let friends drive drunk heard every Friday on the announcements is a vital part of S.A.D.D. S.A.D.D. has sold key chains and T-shirts, has had a float in the Fourth of July parade, has had a crashed car outside of the school for the Senior and Junior Proms, and has had an assembly for the students on drunk driving. The officers, Lavinia Davis, Katherine Beal, and Rebecca Lambert, have put a lot of time into this club. The club is based on a willingness to fight for education on and preven- tion of drunk driving, and hopes for an even greater turn out to support its efforts next year. We would like to thank our advisor, Mr. Peter Bailey, for all his help in getting S.A.D.D. off to a good start. Remember FRIENDS DON ' T LET FRIENDS DRIVE DRUNK! 170 Officers: K. Beal, R. Lambert, L. O ' Neil The spirited youth of the HHS sailing team are drowning in a sea of a retarded tradi- tion. Under the astute leadership of Cap- tain Jon Metters and Captain Merrill Stubbing Norton, the sailing team cap- tured second in the state finals held at M.I.T. and tenth in the New England championships. We were immeasurably helped by the presence and support of our coach Ernest The Green Sticka St. Jean, without whom the sailing team would not be able to sail. The team was fortunate in that there were few serious in- juries, except for the near loss of Keith Ryan ' s legs. Overall, the season was suc- cessful, considering the lack of organiza- tion we seemed to experience often. The year it appears the team will be coachless. The captains, Keith Ryan and Jamie O ' Neil, are hoping to take the team to the national championship in An- napolis, MD. At the very least, the team hopes to gain a good state and New En- gland ranking. 171 Math Team p B. Pfiefer, M. Sweeney, L. McColgan, N. Baldwin, L. Gervasi, D. Finn Football . . . basketball . . . lacrosse . . . why bother? Come and be a part of the ultimate sporting endeavor ... the math team. Why waste your time catching a football when you can join a team that has no practices and meets only six times a year. Join the math team now!! Seriously, though. The REAL truth about the math team is that is has nothing to do with math at all. The name is just a front for the best kept secret at Hingham High. The truth is that Mr. Baisden uses the math team funds to take the club into Bermuda six times a year, and get the varsity team completely sunburned ... as a school sponsored event! So you see, the only reason we call this travesty the Math team is because when heavy hitters like Pete Giordano starts looking for girls, you have to be able to count pretty high to keep trade. So for those of you still in Hingham High, if you can count to high numbers while covered with Hawaiian Tropic, join up!! Of 172 Band Members: W. Schuka, M. Field, J. Thompson, T. Markowitz, H. It has been since the arrival of its dedicated Director Jeff Browne. Being critical of sound and commitment, Mr. Browne has brought his band to state wide and national competitions where they have placed in the top three in both Jazz Band and Concert Band Competi- tion. The outlook for the band in 1 988 has been a positive one and as always the band will hold up the standard that is its foundation; winning many more awards. Say it ain ' t sol Well, it ain ' t so. With the appearance of many talented sophomores from both junior highs, and the invaluable ex- perience of veteran seniors, we ' re pretty damn good this year. (Oh yeah, the juniors are o.k., too). In the Southeast District Jazz Festival in Nor- wood, MA, the Jazz Band won third place honors out of an ex- tremely competitive group of top bands from around the states. This finish entitles the group to continue on to th e state competition in Fitchburg, MA. At the District Festival, Hingham had three of its mem- bers honored for their solos during the program — Jamie Hughes on saxophone, Peter Spiegler on guitar, and Cris Strone on bass. Both the Band and the Jazz Band are plan- ning a trip to Toronto, Canada i in May to compete with other ' bands from across the coun- ' try. This trip is a result of the ' grueling slave labor required; during the Band ' s annual citrus fruit sale in November and December. Desmond, S. Moran, M. Connors, A. Bastiani, K. Ryan, D. Riccirell i, B. Bowen, W. Schuka, M. Mayo, D. Pettiti, G. Richards, S. Rodriguez, A. Hutchinson, S. Murphy This year, for the first time in over twenty years, the chorus was not under the direction of Salvadore Bartolotti. Dr. Cap- pers, the new choral director, has been working hard with the chorus officers, president Keith Ryan, vice-president Janet Roper, treasurer Wendy Schuka and secretary June Desmond. Together, it was decided that the chorus would not go on an exchange concert or travel to a festival. This allowed Dr. Cappers to settle in before undertaking such a venture. Last year the chorus, in addi- tion to the two concert, trav- elled to Tonawanda, NY for an exchange concert. This trip was peculiarly fun. All chorus members enjoyed the trip which featured a side trip to the Niagara Falls. Hopefully, the chorus will be able to take similar such fun trips in the future. The entire chorus wishes Dr. Cappers the best of luck in building the chorus. Officers: M. Friedman, K. Ryan, M. Connors, J. Roper, J. Desmond, W. Schuka, S. Moran 175 Choral Spectrum 4 G. Richards, M. Bernard, E. Chiu, L. McColgan, B. Bowen, B. Hallett, J. Sedaca, M. Field, G. Gregoire, B. Budde, S. Rodriguez, L Kilmartin, S. Moran Choral Spectrum is made up of a group of select choral singers. This fun and exciting group sings show choir music, madrigal pieces (Renaissance music), as well as singing and dancing combined. We would like to thank Dr. Cappers for his patience and ingenuity in order to create some excellent shows. We have all had a wonderful time and we would like to wish success to the group in the future. ( 176 J Orchestra The Hingham High School Orchestra was once again at its best this year. We had quite an exciting year. Although our European Tour was cancelled, much to this dismay of our overseas fans, we did play in the Winter and Spring con- certs at the High School, the MSOA festival in Shrewsbury, the MICA festival, and for the senior citizens at the home on Thaxter Street. Though the orchestra itself did not make any public appearances, our talented or- ganization was well repre- sented in the Semsba and Dis- trict Orchestras. All members that auditioned were ac- cepted. Special recognition is deserved by Beth Hallett, who was chosen for the All-State Orchestra viola section, and Joanie Pimental and Cecily Kovatch who were seated first and second chairs respec- tively in the Semsba cello sec- tion. Stein 177 Drama Club The drama club is, without a doubt, one of Hingham High ' s most successful clubs. It has produced sell-out shows, award-winning per- formances, and quite possibly, future stars. Thanks to several extremely patient and tal- ented adult advisors, the drama club has been able to; put on a total of three shows per year, sponsor an annual trip to N.Y.C., and gain rec- ognition as one of the state ' s finest high school drama clubs. Hats off to Mr. Higgins, Mrs. Luther, Mr. Browne, Mr. Lacatell (and his ■Love Rhino ), Mr. Berlenbach (how do you catch a unique rabbit?), and Mrs. Susan MOM Kilmartin. Last year, the drama club took its festival play The Little Toy Dog all the way to the state finals in Boston. The show won a total of five awards for outstanding performances. This year s play, The Honorable Urashima Taro, is expected to go even farther. The drama club will continue to produce excel- lent shows, veteran Luthercizers, and tal- ented actors for a very long time. Officers: K. Ryan, T. Gulden, M, Pedersen, M. Mayo, J. O ' Neil, L. To become a member one must have done at least 1 00 hours work that can not be all acting and one must be in at least four High School productions beginning in ninth grade. All members of the Thespian Society receive a free magazine as well as a card of mem- bership. In the spring, Thespian Nite is held. At this gathering new members are in- ducted, there are play presentations, and stand-up comedy. The members of the Thespian Society also participate in Hu- manities Nite.
