Projects will include work on a novelty fabric (fur, leather, suede). Vogue pattern, and lingerie. Students will be encouraged to experiment with textiles and fabric dyeing to create projects for the home as well as wearing apparel. r SYMPHONIC (MARCHING) BAND — Grades 10, 11, 12 — 6 Periods — Elective — (3) WHERE VALID CONFLICTS EXIST, HOURS CAN BE ARRANGED INDIVIDUALLY WITH MUSIC DEPARTMENT APPROVAL. This ensemble is the major performing group of the High School Instrumental Program in the symphonic and marching areas. Instruction will emphasize integration of refined music performance skills, conceptual understandings, and appreciation of music within the musical mediums and requirements of the organization. TYPEWRITING II — Grades 10, 11, 12 — 6 Periods — (5) This course is a second year of typewriting instruction meeting five times a week for a full year to develop to a vocational level the operational techniques, production, mechanics, and information about business procedures. Instruction covers the use of the electric typewriter. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, speed, and the production of acceptable copy on business letters, tables, and business forms. LEWIS ERNST Mr. Ernst came to Hingham in 1963 as a history teacher. He later became the Assistant Principal of the high school until 1970 when he left Hingham to become a Principal of Fra- mingham North High School. He returned to Hingham in 1974 as Assistant Superintendent. He served in this posi- tion until January 1982 when he became Superintendent. THANK YOU DR. WILLIAM MAHONEY Dr. Mahoney came to Hingham in 1965 from Connecticut. During his Superintendency he brought many new pro- grams to Hingham. L. r 27 Angela Epple Angela Epple came to Hingham in 1959- She was involved with the Dra- ma Club and the Debate Club. She is known for her yearly Thoreau Walk. Students who had the fortune to have Mrs. Epple in American Literature had the pleasure of learning about a variety of great American personali- ties. She died in 1981. Carl Schmatzler Carl Schmatzler came to Hingham in 1955. He taught industrial arts and mechanical drawing in both the junior and senior high school. His concern for detail encouraged many of his stu- dents to pursue careers in design and architecture. He died in 1981. 28 Stan Curtis Jack Wallace Mr. Jack Wallace came to Hingham in 1956 from Randolph. He served as Department Head of Mathematics from 1965 to 1968. He then returned to the classroom full time. His con- tributions to the school are most ex- tensive. He retired in 1981. Mr. Thomas Lane came to Hingham in 1954 and taught art in both the junior and senior high schools. Many of his students have become well recognized in the field of art. He retired in 1981. Stan Curtis was one of Hingham ' s warm and friendly custodians. He al- ways was seen doing some task to keep the building clean. He retired in 1 98 1 .
