Out S c6a tye Student Quite often, maybe too often, the expression international understanding makes people think of con- ferences and official delegates, and many of us never realize that understanding between politicians doesn ' t help too much to preserve peace as long as there are misunderstandings between the peoples themselves, and it is from these misunderstandings, often in matters of seemingly trifling significance, that prejudices arise. I have been asked a couple of strange questions: such as, Do you have .electricity? and Do you wear wooden shoes over there? — all of which show how little we actually know about each other. I have been happy to answer your questions and to learn from you about this wonderful country. But most of all I have to thank you for the wonderful time I had at Hingham High, for the many friends I made, and for your overwhelming cordiality. I had expected much of this year, but, thanks to you, it gave me more than I had ever hoped for. I hope that together we have contributed something to a better understanding between the nations and that you will always keep in memory these lines from the Psalms: Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. FRITS HAM HILVERSUM, HOLLAND 12
