PUBLIC LIBRARY ' . •• .• •« ' V i To every man there openetli ■ Away, and ways, and a way, And the high soul cHmhs the high way, And the low soul gropes the low; And in between on the misty flats, The rest drift to and fro; But to every man there openeth A high way and a low, And every man decideth The way his soul shall go. —JOHN OXENHAM, A High and a Low .?fsJii ?Ei. . Hoxie, Chairman Joseph W. Allen, Secretary SUPERINTENDENT I. Douglass Reade John T. Samuelson John A. Redmond, Principal Preston J. Barry, Assistant Principal DEAR MEMBERS OF THE HINGHAM HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1958: May I extend to you every wish for your future happiness and success? To bring luck your way, try these recipes for a day : 1. SEE something beautiful READ something beautiful SAY something beautiful 2. THINK that day lost whose descending sun Views from thy hand no noble action done — Bohart 3. BE ORIGINAL — Originality is simply a pair of fresh eyes. — Sheppard 4. HAVE A GOAI — Hitch your wagon to a star. — Emerson 5. BE PREPARED — I will get ready, so that when the time comes . . . — Lincoln Faithfully yours, I. Douglass Reade DEAR GRADUATES: Sincere congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 1958! If you abide by the following quotation, we believe you will live a full and happy life. What we make of our lives depends on the decisions we make daily. Right living depends on right choices. It is up to us and no one else. We in America have the power of choice. Every day we are faced with new decisions, and our health, success, and happiness depend on how we decide. — Carl E. Holmes Very sincerely yours, John A. Redmond J. Preston Barry I MLLE. DANIELLE TOUSSAINT This almost began as a fairy tale. I had had something like a premonition that I should come someday to that America which we talk so much over there. But the dream became a reality, and I should never thank enough all those who made it be such. I found in Hingham, and most particularly in Hingham High School, the most sympathetic welcome one can imagine. Everyone has been, and still is, so kind and nice to me that I feel like having lived here for years. Isn ' t that a wonderful example of international understanding! EDITORS: M. OB Ctt 9! 11 HARBOR HIGHLIGHTS Skippered by Head Coach Brennan and aided in his first trip at the helm by first mates Cavallo, Vickery, and Pierce, the Harbor ship sailed through its 1957 schedule intact to become the Co-Champs of Class ' ' C with Marlboro. Manned by an experienced crew of thirty, among them nineteen seniors, the ship left port September 28, 1957, for its first encounters- The Mission, Milton, Abington, and Canton defenses were easily split by Hingham ' s prow, but in a nor ' easter at Stoughton the Harbormen nearly sank before a fourth period pass floated into T. Wayne ' s arms. Flu-stricken, Hingham plugged on staving off North Quincy for the first time in twelve years and drowning Boston College High. Calling all hands on deck for the BIG GAME at BRAINTREE ... the Harbormen played their best game of the year as they victoriously weathered the Wamps ' storm with a second half safety. Rockland was the only snag left in the Harbor course, but on Thanksgiving Day, Hingham sailed to victory and their first undefeated season since 1927. All totaled, the Harbormen scored 257 points to their op- ponents 65. COACH BRENNAN, Star-gazing! However, Coach Hall fash- ioned a new but capable 1958 model complete with two lines and guided the Harbormen to a victorious season. Running down the newcomers to the revised South Shore League, Hingham entered the play-offs tied for first place with Archbishop Williams after having battled the Bishops to a 1-1 deadlock. Sprinting over the Weymouth Hurdle, the Harbormen were tripped up by the Scituate Sailors in a surprise upset, boosting the Bishops into first place. A victory in the next contest with Williams became a MUST if Hingham were to successfully defend the William A. Cronin Trophy. Sparked by Ma ' c ' s tremendous goal tend- ing, Hingham fought hard, but the end of the second over- time found the teams still in a scoreless draw; Williams took the trophy. The Harbormen, losing only two seniors, Wayne and MacLaughlin, will be able to make a good attempt next year to recover the title. VARSITY ICE HOCKEY— fop row, left to right: B. McKay, M. Breen, C.
