Blair J J i s li Of ) s Cay cues tick s One of the most exciting events of last year was the success of the Hingham High representatives in the two Drama Festivals of 1947. The play was The Bishop ' s Candlesticks, by Norman McKinnel. It starred Lloyd Caplan, Sylvia Doble, LeRoy Leonard, with Andy Macmillan, Cliff Blair, and Jane Sturgis, very ably directed by Mr. William B. Spink. After weeks of rehearsing, ana a preliminary contest at the high school, the cast and crew of The Bishop set oui tor Newburyport, where the Massachusetts State Drama festival was held, on March 28th and 29th. As a climax of two days of some fifteen plays from high schools all over Massachusetts, Hingham and Arlington High tied for top honors and were selected as the winning plays to represent Massachusetts in the New Lngland Drama Festival to be held at Wesleyan University, Middle town, Uonnecticut, on May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. More rehearsing back home, and we were ready to set out for Wesleyan by bus, where we were chaufiered about the campus and town by Mr. Driscoll, whom we really learned to appreciate. After rehearsing Friday afternoon, we put en our play Friday evening, then sat through the rest of Friday and Saturday evening performances, and we received the highest possible rating of EXCELLENT. It would be impossible to express what we owed to Mr. Spink whose fine direction put the play over for us. L J age l- ' in.v ei«hi Hipfhwav I ' m. In the 1947 season, the Taboi game was Hingham ' s high point, and the North Quincy game, its low The squad did a wonderful job in a season marked by injuries,, not losing a game when the entire team was able to play. The one touchdown teams of the past are gone and a new, wide- open, fast scoring game is being played by the Hingham High Gridsters We say, well done, fellows, and congratulations, Coach Cronin! The 1947 Field Hockey Team enjoyed a slight comeback this youi, and a break-even season, 4-4-4. Although they encountered some bad luck and cold weather, there weie no serious injuries or setbacks The team was ably managed by Cynthia Band and Barbara W holey, who were always ready with their first aid ? kit and water bucket. They were proud and pleased lo have Carolyn Pickett, their center hall back, awarded a place on the all star team at the Beaver Country Day games. The girls didn ' t win any cups, but they had an invincible spirit that kept them going, lor they remembered their motto, a team wins, individuals lose.
