HINGHAM PUBLIC LIBRARY iAai Your Community Resource Center 9 HINGHAM HIGH SCHOOL 1941 i « Tarn O ' Shander On the athletic field, in our school, in our corridors and in our class- rooms we find the greatest friend we ever had, — Tarn O ' Shander. He ' s friendship, good sportsmanship, good fellowship and kindness. He ' s our life at Hingham High School. He ' s the true American Spirit! Tarn is always there w hen we need him. When we entered Hingham High School we met him. He grew slowly at first; then to such an extent that we took Tam and introduced him to friends outside our walls. This little fellow with the personality made up of good sportsmanship, good fellowship, friendship and kindness has never met his equal. We shall always feel that his influence is with us throughout our lives. d H One Two i Three Facu Margaret M. Barry t. Leland H. Chapman Helen B. Dorrity Anna M. Billa Barbara C. Glidden Florence G. Sixtv-Four What A Life ' ' Sixty- Five •WHAT A LIFE The play What A Life , by CliflFord Goldsmith, was the school presentation for the 1940 — +1 -ear. It was decidedly one of the better plays produced by the high school. About the latter part of December, the play books were distributed lo the fortunate students who earned roles by their good performances at try-outs. Lennie Bjorklund was chosen as a natural Henn,- Aldriclh and Xancy Roy was a perfect Barbara Pearson . Pattj- Harwood per- formed as the charming secretary of stern, gruff, school principal Mr. Bradley played by Leon Beck. As the long, lanky, lazy Mr. Ferguson , detective extraordinary. Hook McSweeney was superb. The play, in a general summary, concerned itself with a day in the life of an ordinary high school boy who. wanting to take his best girl to the Spring Prom, is told bv his mother that he must get the highest mark in his history- examination. When ' Henr - fails to know the answers to the exam, he cribs from George Bigelow ' s ' [Bill Magruder] paper and when he is discovered, will anyone ever forget Henry ' s expression as he stammered. When Ceasar took Rome, he certainly ruined my life! Returning from our Christmas vacation, we found play rehearsals came ever - afternoon. Under the guiding hand of our new Public Speaking Prof.. Mr. Spink, we rehearsed and rehearsed. Mr. Spink was full of ideas for the interpretation and presentation of the lines and by the middle of February, the play was ready for presentation. The night was Frida -. Februar - 2L the audience was quite big. and the play was a success! The members of the cast were invited to present a portion of the plav before the Massachusetts Drama Festival at Fitchbcrg, but upon requesting permission from Mr. Goldsmith, were refused. The whole cast had fun doing the play. The pictures on the previous page are shots taken at dress rehearsal. bixtv -MX Sixty-Seven Top to bottom [l.tor.] Fourth row: K. Osgood. C. Jackson. R. Haley.
