THLETICS FooTBALi.cBAsKETBALLJASEBALL As early as july, kids described the football team we were going to have. They were right, and it made a BIG difference at each game. Spirit built week by week, until it exploded at the Port Gibson game. Then we knew we had a chance to win the gold ball. Nobody could convince any player, coach, or fan that we weren't terrific. And the next week after we romped Port Gibson, silence filled the air. Whispers echoed everywhere. We pondered our fate. We had been suspended by the Athletic Association as to be placed on probation january 1. It was a shock to all of us. But, nevertheless, we had a good year. THE SEASCDN OF ALL SEASQNS The Bullpups started this season trying to accomplish a goal which they set several years ago. That goal was to become the West Riverside Athletic Conference Champs. After a good season in 1979, and high expectations for 1980, the Bullpups were met with bitter disappointment after realizing that they would not be able to fulfill their dreams. Nevertheless, the Bullpups had a remarkable season that probably will be remembered as the season of all seasons. While every player played an important role, there were some who played akey role. Leading the offensive unit was Perry Marshall, quarterback, who set a school record of throwing ten touchdown passes this season. The running backs were jerry Vaughn, Clayton Kimble, joseph Robinson, and Aaron Frazier.
