For all of us as well as the faculty and administration, it was the beginning of another school term. There were feelings of felicity and of mediocrity-feelings of felicity because we were family again and feelings of mediocrity be- cause we knew little of what the year had in store for us. As the year unfolded and went about its way to bring us academic, social, and aesthetic rewards, there was a certain atmosphere that per- vaded everywhere. It was one of caring and sharing. It was a story much distinguished from others. We were involved in school evaluation which allowed us to take a thorough look at our school. It was just that time again to make sure our school remained top-rated. It meant long hours of work for many of us and all teachers. Not only did the teachers spend long hours working on the self-study report, but also long hours working in the classroom. It paid off because we were inspired, we were motivated, we were enlightened and we were endowed with values never before learned. Our unique and very special story lies within the binding of this book. We have sought to show actions, qualities, in variations that have characterized our extraordinary yet conventional school year. To some our collection of facts might seem to be an ill representa- tion, to others it might be authenticity at its best. Nevertheless, whether the impression be good or bad, THIS IS OUR STORY. r t 1, I 1 5 Q I . g-.,4,'Q , bil!! u Wh, T- Q., 'HPV' . XS' . '- N' . I ks. K t-A -I ri k 'vfi' ,L J Us ' I ' .-iff ' '- . The 1979-80 school year brought a new and much needed program to Hinds A.H.S. Very few high schools in the entire country can boast of having their own health clinic. The program, initiated and directed by Dr. Aaron Shirley of the jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center, offered many services to students at no cost. Services included complete physical and dental examinations, and treat- ment for any minor problems diagnosed. Visual screening for eye problems and lab tests for various types of infections, pregnancy, blood count, and other health conditions were available through the clinic. Immunizations, pap tests, and pregnancy prevention were also among the services offered. Other ser- vices provided through the clinic were health-education rap sessions and indi- vidual counseling. If a student's health needs required specialized attention not available at the clinic, the staff refered the student to the proper source. The staff personnel included Mrs. Io Gregory, coordinator: Ms. Kay Killings, nurse practitionerg Ms. Patricia Moore, LPNQ and Ms. Liza Mitchel, clerk, and the physicians and dentists of the Iackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center. Mrs. Io Gregory coordinates new health clinic HI DS A.H.S. EVALUATES It was that time again-that time when the administrators, faculty, and students evaluated Hinds AHS in light of its strengths and weaknesses. Each depart- ment gave careful study to its perfor- mances, facilities, outcomes, and materi- als. We are sure that after the evaluation committee comes next year, we can boast a good rating. 4' ,Q VVorking diligently to compile the fine arts portion of tho self-ovl ci repo Mi Lu mfikfs 1 fi W in oharigtes. 5 k in Umm Q 3 3 .-ew X ,, V 'Z' li MWF' ' .S+ 1 ' WK f Y N: lx , ,,,.i.,M Ne.
