Concerts, parades and games were only a few of the band's engaging activities. Despite the decline in the number of par- ticipating band members, we felt that our band performed well this year. The Hinds A.H.S. chapter of the Future Farmers of America was very functional state wide this year. The chapter produced teams that per- formed outstandingly in local,' dis- trict and state competitions. Clifton Brown, a senior from Ray- mond, was elected President of the Mississippi Association of National Honor Society at a state meeting in Greenwood, MS last spring. He has played an active role in the state and local chapters of this organi- zation. We, the Bullpups, were ex- ceedingly proud of Clifton. t g Several new inductees per- formed the initiating ceremony that depicts the total academic heir of the National Honor So- ciety. The Hinds A.H.S. Chap- ter was involved in various community services along with their deep involvement in the State Association. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY 3 ,ff 1' 2. 7 i 2 Qi Vs if Future Homemakers of America The Hinds A.H.S. chapter of Future I-Iomemakers of America presented Mini-Parenting clinics as part of their local chapter activities. 'Inf to vm - val ,. 123' l ga 1 ug' if Q-1 X 1 5 7' A lp if '- 'Ill Too, the Guidance Department in conjunction with the Home- coming Department, presented clinics on drugs, alcohol, personal hy- giene and dress. u-.1 Industrial Arts and Vocational Trades students took advantage of the meaningful opportunities in drawing and planning, electricity, woodworking, drafting and leathercraft. They also acquired skills and techniques necessary in using tools and machines. Mr. Strong and Mr. Edwards worked hard to insure the excellent out- come of their students. Vocational Trades provided practical and theoretical experiences in carpentry and masonry for those students whose needs and interests could not be met in the regular school program. This year, representing Hinds AHS as the star student was Miss Cheryl Lynn Stamps, who ranked in the top ten percent of her graduating class of one hundred and fifty. Among her extra-curricular activities were the title of Miss Hinds, Na- tional Honor Society, Vice President of local chapter of the FHA chapter, Who's Who among American High School Stu- dents, recipient of the Betty Crocker Award, Band, and Stu- dent Council Representative. Cheryl has chosen to pursue a degree in Computer Tech- nology at Southern University. STAR STUDENT CHERYL STAMPS STUDENT-TEACHER ACHIEVEMENT RECOGNITION SPONSORED BY MISS. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 1976-1977 STAR TEACHER MRS. M. HAMPTON Mrs. Magnolia Miller Hampton was chosen our 1977 Star Teacher. Mrs. Hampton attended Mississippi Valley State g University, where she received a B.S. in English. She has since done graduate work at Mississippi State University, in addi- tion to having attended numerous institutes, workshops, and seminars. Since her moving here from McComb five years ago, she has been an instructor of English and journalism. She is married to Melvin Hampton and has one daughter, Rhonda Marchelle and two sons, Fentress Kessel and Kentress Catrell. Her activities, other than instructing English and advising the and her home church affiliation. Her hobbies are reading, working with students, cooking, meeting people, and observ- ing nature. This annual is our finished product which reflects restrospective our search of excellence. We can remember when the '77 Hindsonian was but a monumental tasl-ig yet we observed its changing into a challenge as it became wholly a reality. Our dedication to this tasl-z brought us headaches and discouragements when we could not get good photos, find origi- nal layouts and meet our deadline.
