In those days Hinckley was a thriving lumbering town with a population of 1200. The majority of the people depended on the Brennan Mill which cut 200,000 feet of lumber a day, to suooly them with a job. On the afternoon of September I, I891 , a ball of fire rolled from the southwest Into Hinckley. With the aid of a tornadic wind, low humidity, and little precipitation it struck. As a result, the town was reduced to ashes. SENIOR HIGH STUDENT COUNCIL DRESS CODE GIRLS: 1. Skirts are to be of reasonable length. As a guideline skirts should be no more that three inches above the knee. 2. No unusual hair coloring. 3. No excessive make-up. k. If hair is ratted, it must be combed down neatly. 5. Pantskirts and pantdresses allowed if of proper length. 6. On cold days, proper dress must be brought along to change into, after arriving at school. Slacks permitted only on days when students are excused to attend a ball game. 7. Cheerleaders are permitted to wear uniforms to after game parties. 8. Sweatshirts, levis, knee-knockers, bermudas are prohibited R( BOYS: 1. No sweatshirts will be allowed. 2. No white T-shirts. 3. No-engineer boots. U. Belts must be worn with trousers which are designed for belts. 5. Hair length: Bangs must be above eyebrows, hair length in back must not be so long as to go over the ears. Wide and long sideburns are not allowed. 6. Socks must be worn with sandals. 7. Shirts worn in unless cut square to be worn out. The Student Council of 1968-69, with a new advisor, Mr. Sonju, and Presidnet Leo Irlbeck ruled with an iron hand. The 1968 Homecoming wa sponsored by the Student Council and turned out to be a great success. Kathy Grewe and Leo Irlbeck attended the 1968 Minnesota Student Council Convention with Mr. Sonju. The dress code was enacted by the Council. The fiIm. Disorderly Orderly was sponsored as a pre-Christmas vacation treat. After game parties were tried but the Juniors took over to raise money for the prom. Sno-Week was also sponsored by the Council and was a very snowy success. Monday night the seniors collected wood for the bonfire. Tuesday was casual day and the slave sale. The Powder Puff football games were held Wednesday night. The games were followed by the bonfire and snake dance. Thursday students wore red and white for color day. Friday was dress-up day and the coronation. Carla Peterson and Brian Kendall were crowned Homecoming royalty. Homecoming came to a close that evening with the football game against Onamia and the dance. The Vulcans lost the game 32 - 7. 45 POWDER-PUFF FOOTBALL GRAND MARCH ICEBOUND V icebound, a drama In three acts was written by Owen Davis. It takes place in the parlor of the Jordan homestead in Veazi® Maine. Icebound is the story of Jane Crosby, a servant who tried to change Ben Jordan, who had run away when accused of a crime and had returned to the Jordan homestead the night 0f his mother's death. The other Jordans were all waiting for her death, hoping to inherit her money. Instead, the old woman left all her money to Jane, who with the help of judge Bradford, cleared Ben of the crime and gradually changed him. She loved Ben and therefore in turn left ail th« money she inherited to him. Not until Jane was ready to leave did Ben realize he loved her too. To solve his medical problems, Argan, the invalid, would like his daughter, Angelique, to marry Thomas Diafolrus. Angelique has other ideas and with the help of Toinette they scheme for her marriage to Cleante. - N 0. W K ACTIVITIES FOR THE WEEK Sno-Week 69 started on Monday January 27th with Casual Day. Tuesday was declared Color-Day, that ev- ening we were defeated by Askov in an over-time game with a score of 73-81 . Dress- up Day started off Wednesday with the coronation following that night. At the coronation the 1968 Homecoming Royalty, Brian Kendall and Carla Peterson, Crowned Carol Winsor Sno Queen and Bill Foss Sno-King. The Audience was tnen entertained by the faculty band. A volleyball qame then took place with the faculty defeating the stu- dents. On Thursday Student Administration Day was held and declared a success. Friday January 31, the student body held a pepfest and a Hootenany with Mr. Hermondson and his guitar. Friday night the Vulcans were defeated narrowly by Finlayson with a score of 66-70. A dance was held In the Elementary school, featuring the Creme Cheez. This brought a close to the 1969 Annual Sno-Week. 52 }UEEN CAROL Homecoming queen Carla presents Bill with the Golden Sceptor.
