Hinckley High School... recognize it? This is how it looked the evening you left the building late after a long committee meeting...how it appeared to your parents as they entered to attend FTA... and how you may picture it in years to come as you remember opening the door for your date on Homecoming night. The Vulcan staff invites you to enter these doors with them, to renew ac- guaintances...and relive old memories...in the pages of THE I960 VULCAN Editor Sharon Schroeder Business Manager JoAnn Martin Advisor Miss Christianson „ TABLE OF CONTENTS Ill DEDICATION i We, the Seniors of '61, dedicate the VUlCAN to MISS INEZ JONES, whose patience, understanding, and clear teaching methods has made her a favorite with all her students. HINCKLEY TIED FOR FIRST PLACE IN CENTRAL 6l The Hinckley Vulcans finished the regular season tied for first place with Barnum. Coaches Harry Nelson and Alex Krengel guided the team to another successful season. Excluding the last game, the Vulcans had an overall record of 15 2, which Is one of the most successful seasons in many years. Experience was probably the reason for this record. The varsity consisted of eight seniors and three juniors.Gary Miller, Jim Brennan, and Dennis Jendro were the top scorers. Len Schneider, Don Dahl, Mike Gimpl, and Allan Rabe supplied the rebounding power, something often overlooked but very valuable to a team. George Hokanson, Bob Reed, and Joe Jarvis were the play- makers of the team. 44 L. Schneider jumps center. Dahl and Miller set to rebound. VULCANS COMPLETE SEASON WITH SIX VICTORIES The Hinckley Vulcans, under the coaching of Jim Berquist and assistant Roger Glaim, finished second in the Central 6l Conference. The Vulcans were undefeated until the last game of the year when they lost a real heart-breaker by only four points. Hinckley outgained the Barnum team in yardage, but numerous miscues accounted for their downfall. The past season must be considered successful, since the team had a young line and were weak on reserves. Co-Captains: Len Schneider and Jim Brennan. Coaches: Mr. Berquist and Mr. Glaim t 47 G. The size of the team and the fact that the boys had no track to practice on were factors in the teams showing for the I960 season. Gary Miller finished second at the Chengwatana Invitational, third at the District Meet, and advanced to the Regional Track Meet. The team finished the I960 season with a 6-1 record, 5-0 for the conference games. The game with Moose Lake was called at the end of seven innings because of rain. The score was 7 to 7 but the game couldn't be played later. The team met a major disappointment when they lost the first game in the district tournament to Pine City.
