The massed band, consisting of 170 members from Hinckley, Som- onauk, and Big Rock, gave three concerts during the year. The first concert was given in Somonauk in December with Mr. Fabish as the guest -director. The second concert was given in Big Rock in January and the last concert, in Hinckley on April 10. A pep band was organized which played at most of the home basketball games. Nineteen soloists and nine ensembles, entered the District contest at Geneva, while the band entered the contest at Genoa-Kingston. A concert was given on March Z, so the public could hear the contest pieces. Many won first place at District and went on to State Contest at Charleston, Illinois on April 30 and May l. The spring concert was held in April which ended the school-year activities, but many activities are planned for this summer. The general opinion seems to be that Mr. Wight is a swell direc- tor! The results he gets go to prove they're right. 37
