GROUP SINGING LIGHTENS SERIOUS SIDE OF SCHOOL You have to know your do-re-mi's to belong to these groups of singers. Every Monday and Thursday afternoon at 12:30 one can hear the Girls' Chorus in the music room--practicing for the Christmas Concert, the mu- sic contest or the spring concert, striving for perfect harmony and voice blending. Perhaps it's the two hours of practice per week that does it, but when those students sound out Forever and Ever --it's music. This was a year of many activities for the Girls' Chorus and Girls' Quartette. The first place at which the Girls' Quartette showed their vo- cal talent was the Pure Milk Association's annual meeting,while the Girls' Chorus was not heard until the Christmas Concert. After the Christmas Concert, the Girls' Chorus started to practice for the Illinois High School Association Music Contest. As a climax to the year's activities, both choruses participated in the Spring Concert which was held on April 2.5. J 35

MUSIC-THE SPICE OF LIFE This is the theme of the members of the Mixed Chorus,and they try to provide spice as thoroughly as possible. Every Friday at 12:30 music begins to trickle out of the music room. Forty-eight voices produce music of a delicate tone quality and blend. Several newcomers strengthened the sections which suffered from gradu- ation last spring. The Music Contest in the spring is a source of much worry, but the usual success and praise follows the Annual Spring Concert before an audience in the Gym. MIXED CHORUS SOLOISTS I H x , , 34

So many new members were added to the band during the school year that there was a shortage of uniforms in the spring. The group com- posed of over sixty-seven members rehearsed on Tuesday afternoons at 2:30 and on Fridays at 3:30. The 1953 summer season included marching in the International Lion's Parade in Chicago and the Mardi Gras Parade at Riverview. Engage- ments during the year included participation in the Hinckley Homecoming in August and in the entertainment at the Sandwich Fair in September. It was also one of the bands selected to march in the DeKalb College Day parade. 36
