If one were to ask students Why do you read? many would reply, We H read because we have to. That is true, of course. It is true for all of one's life. No one can get a- long in our society without doing an immense amount of reading. The skilled laborer and professional worker today DEPEND on books, trade magazines, bulletins, etc. Therefore, ifeducationis to represent permanent gain for the student it must guide him toward self-dependence in reading. The librarians, Lois Miller, Lourene Bastian, Nancy Mullis, Carla Haagensen, Hilda Wassman, Gail Abell, Laura Matter, Jacquelyn Chamberlain, and Paul Bastian, are ever ready to lend a helping hand.
