TENNESSEE Dear Seniors: With a sincere feeling of regret over the fact that you will be leaving this school, but also with a sense of pride in your accomplishments while here, I pen my farewell message to the first seniors in the history of our young school. You are being graduated from high school during one of the most critical and challenging periods of world history. Upon your shoulders rest the hope and dreams of mankind. May you as individuals demonstrate in your adulthood the same sense of un- selfishness and farsightedness which so often you have given as a group in helping shape traditions in building the history of our new school. As Joaquin Miller spoke of the Admiral in his poem, Columbus, I hope you too can demonstrate his courage and strength: nThen pale and worn, he kept his deck, And peered through darkness, ah, that night Of all dark nights! And then a speck A light! A light! A light! A light! It grew, a starlit flag unfurledl It grew to be Time's burst of dawn. He gained a world: he gave that world Its grandest lesson: On! Sail on!n Very sincerely yours, 7 Mr. WILLIAM W. I-IICKS Assistant Principal Mrs. CAROLYN COX Secretary HILLWOOD HIGH SCHOOL 6215 HICKORY VALLEY ROAD NASHVILLE 5. One was that we were unable to use our stadium for the home games due to an exces- sive amount of sand on the field. Another was the upset defeat by Hendersonville 6-15 and we suffered a defeat by Kingston. The overall record was 9-2 and made us Class AA Co-Champs. With this record we gained a bid tothe Strawberry Bowl. By defeating Smyrna there 45 -0, we brought the victory trophy home. The leading scorers were Ronnie Medlin 90, Newt Williams 59, Billy Hedge 46, Manley Mixon 31, and Charlie Collier 21. As the scoreboard indicates, de- fensively we were just as good. Chief defensive players were: Newt Williams, Dick Renick, Jeff Gorin, Fred Williams, Bobby Hart, and Steve Marks. 1963 will be a year to remember when we look over all the trophies won this football season.
