The cast included Sheri Harding as Alice, Chuck Day as the Rabbit, John Timmons portraying the Carrot, Julie Wulff and Judy Hale as Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, Jim Gore as the Cheshire Cat, Mike Brower as the Jockey, Mary Cole with the part of the Caterpillar, Polly Garrett as the Doormouse, Roy Bottger playing the Mad Hatter, jennifer Price as the Bird Lady, and Karla Smith reigning supreme as the Queen. The Footmen were: Dale Dodds, Jose Hanono, john Coleman, and John Timmons. Geoff Dawson was the King, the Judge was played by Jerry Cappos, N Kathy Wilson performed as Old Alice and Patti Long played the Dumb Guy. Many other students, too numerous to mention, also gave generously of their time. Effective sound and lighting, under the direction of Sam Smith, John Thomas, and Gordon Wilson complemented the excellent acting on stage. All those who took an active part in the presentation of this year's show should be congratulated for producing a Variety Show unparalleled by any in Hilltop's past. All of the Lancers wish to extend a special thanks to Mrs. Maxine Shofner, Mr. Orville Shofner, and Mr. Don Marshall, the show's faculty advisors, for their help and guidance. if 2 . kg - if G Behind the Scenes of Sueeess THIS PAGE - lower left: Geoff Dawson and Sheri Harding in The Impossible Years, presented at Studio Night by the drama department: upper right: Theatre Guild officers, Karla Smith CPN-s.J, jenny Redding fVice Pres.J, Kathy Wilson lsweetheartl, and Peggy Pavka lSec,lg lower right: Death of a Salesman, with Gary Faucher, Mark Graves, and jenny Reddingg bottom: Theatre Guild with their advisor, Mr. Shofner. 5 . -1 W., . ,,, f if A I - ., L ,, ...Q L., KL . Teachers and students alike were entertained with the antics of the BMOC skits, the fervor of the Chariot races, and by the Slave Auction. The week was accented by the Princesses' and Pep Assemblies, and tension began to mount as the Big Man On Campus was announced. 1974's Homecoming was brought to a dramatic conclusion as we welcomed back our alumni to Hilltop's Homecoming football game. Anticipation grew with the arrival of halftime and the crowning of our Homecoming Queen, Carol Dowell. Halftime was highlighted by a magnificent display of fireworks, and a successful victory over Mar Vista. A week, a night, and a game to fill our memories in the years to come. M x Friendship is an attitude: Sparkling eyes and smiles of contentment, Expressing affection between two friends and Sharing the amusement of high school life. The year has come to a beautiful end, but The feeling of loss hangs heavy within us. With only two returning coaches and thirteen returning lettermen, Hilltop's Varsity Football team was predicted to win only one league game this year. All in all it was supposed to be another losing season for Hilltop Football. But the team did not do what they were slated to do. With the addition of four coaches, a different offensive game plan, plus a sophisticated kicking game, the Lancers ended up the season with a 6-3 record, Hilltop's best since 1966. The unpredictable team came from behind in most of its victories, and the team proved to be one of the most physical teams in the league. The team put Bonita's quarterback plus one of Castle Park's defenders out for the rest of the game. Against Sweetwater, the mighty Lancers put out two men on their team for the rest of the season. But the highpoint of the season was when the team defeated Chula Vista, a feat not accomplished by a Hilltop team since 1966. Our team hung in there when the going got tough and they truly deserve to be called champions. The JV Basketball Team ended a tough season with victories over Mar Vista and Castle Park. The Lancers compiled a fine record of 16-9, including big wins over Sweetwater and Chula Vista. The Lancers, who were usually shorter than their opponents, relied on their speed and their shooting abilities to overcome their competition.
