MRS. lil DYS HARTZELL GIRlS' VICE-PRI CIPAL Hilltop High School owes much to Mrs. Gladys Hartzell, a very capable and in- dustrious woman. Charged with the responsibility of coun- seling the Lancer girls, lVlrs. Hartzell has helped them become better citizens through her understanding guidance. As Girls' League advisor, she has given the girls much of her time. Her leader- ship has helped in making their activi- ties this year the most successful in the school's history. Devoting great energy to the California Scholastic Federation, Nlrs. Hartzell has also aided this organization in its activities. This energy has also been exhibited in her work with the scholarship program. Taking an interest in eachSenior's need of college advice, lVlrs. Hartzell has helped many to make the right decision about college, as well as helping them obtain needed scholarships. R. RUBIERT GEYER BUYS' VICE-PRINCIPAL Assisting the Lancer boys in their schol- arship and athletic endeavors is lVlr. Robert Geyer's major task as vice-prin- cipal each year. lVlr. Geyer sets up specific qualifica- tions for all boys participating in any athletic activities. Although he is a very busy man, he always has time to watch his boys in their fight for victory at games. A part of lVlr. Geyer's character is his sense of fairness and humor in dealing with the Lancer boys. ln encouraging high standards, he demonstrates a strong firmness whenever necessary. His calmness in meeting responsibility is clearly shown in his efficient admin- istration of the vice-principal's office.

MR. FRED N. MAHUNIEY PRI CIPAL Mr. Fred Mahoney, characterized by his affable smile and his friendly and warm personality, has experienced another fruitful year at Hilltop. Through his trust and inspiration, he encourages admirable conduct among HilItop's stu- dent body. Although directing the faculty and per- forming administrative duties take up most of his time, he always has time to get to know many of the Lancers. He always has a kind word or sincere greeting for everyone. All Lancers will remember him as that warm-hearted gentleman with short white hair and twinkling eyes who ex- emplified the traditions ofa true Lancer. Since an idol is one to be admired, Hill- top students in years to come, will look back upon Mr. Mahoney as a leader of dignity, integrity, warmth, and kind- ness.
