We ‘Dedicate THIS EPOCH AND OUR HOPE OF PEACE To President John Fitzgerald Kennedy Disbelief and shock were the first emotions felt by the throngs who had heard the news of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. A deep sense of personal grief, rare to most of us, replaced the initial shock. The students of Hillside High School with sincerest admiration and loyalty to a great and revered President of the United States of America express the heart-felt desire to forge into the “New Frontier” which he so fervently advocated with his power, will, and prayer. President John F. Kennedy devoted his life to those beliefs which he so ardently held. The people who had elected John F. Kennedy to the highest office in the land and the youth who have found him a great inspiration of patriotism and leadership are now called upon to defend those liberties for which President John F. Kennedy fought, to finish the legislative task he began, and to strive to reach those goals of advancement which he aimed for so magnificently. We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans—horn in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a cold and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage—and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today. President John 7. Kennedy’s Inaugural Address, January 21, 1961. “ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU—ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY. Pace 4 PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY
