A now familiar face in the halls of Hillside High is Dr. Walter O. Krumbiegel. He became our principal upon the retirement of Mr. Ruhl Custer, in the spring of 1963. Dr. Krumbiegel has had many years of experience in the Hillside school system. He was graduated from the Central Grammar School, which is now called A. P. Morris School. He graduated from Lebanon Valley College, Lafayette College, and New York LIniversity where he received his doctorate. For a period of eleven years, Dr. Krumbiegel taught English at Hillside High. Relinquishing his position as head of the English Department, he accepted the post of principal of Hillside Avenue School, a position which he held for seventeen years. He has received such awards as the B’nai B'rith Americanism Award and the Citation for Meritorious Service. Among Dr. Krumbiegel’s hobbies are sailing, skiing, woodworking, photography, and Hillside High School. But Hillside High is even more than a hobby, it is his second home. 'If all the year were playing holiday, to sport would be as tedious as to work.
