Records Long History From a meager membership of nine in I924, the Students' General Association has grown to the amazing stature of I202 members. Just as our magic beanstalk was rooted, Eugene Hoffman, first SGA president, planted the seeds of unity and tra- dition, which are now tended by Herbert Gutentag, SGA's thirty-fourth leader, and Mr. Floyd De Nicola, adviser. Inception of the SGA ticket in i932 heralded progress, for it boosted every activity, athletic event, and social function instrumental to the growth of student government. Some results of successful SGA campaigns for school improvements are a student handbook, air conditioning for the assembly bal- cony, a rail around the track, original oil paintings for the cafeteria and language classrooms, and the use of voting machines. As the SGA gives the student a chance to seek office, and to elect homeroom representatives, it prepares him for the role of the responsible citizen in our American democracy. Four collectors are se- lected annually from each homeroom to keep ac- curate accounts under the supervision of the school treasurer, Miss Phebe Haviland. Savings, the sturdy roots of future needs, are given weekly care by two bankers in each homeroom. Unfolded in the following pages are the results made possible through student-faculty-administration co-operation symbolized by our SGA.
