Coach C, Ferrigno. llllllllllll Posting a record of six victories against three setbacks, the local eleven, under the guidance of Coach Al Weiner and Carmen Ferrigno, turned in a successful season. Coach Weiner, who resumed his duties as grid mentor after a stretch in the Navy, built his team around an experienced crew of nine lettermen. Opening their season on the right foot, the locals avenged last year's defeat by downing Thomas Iefferson, 26-12. The next two Saturdays saw the Comets in a slump, dropping two hard fought contests to Kearny 7-2, and Orange 33-13. West Side, the Comets next opponent, felt the force of revenge and were defeated 26-7 as was Cranford the following week, 27-O. Afta beating Belleville by a close l2-6 tally, the elated Comets traveled to Linden only to come out on the lower end of a 7-O decision. The last two contests in this season ended vic- toriously. The first victory was over lrvington 26-12, and in the finale, the locals downed Weequahic in the traditional Turkey-Day tilt, by a 20-7 tally. FP 11 ' HILLSIDE HIGH GIRLS' ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION With a carefully and eventfully plan- ned program, Girls' Athletics enjoyed one of its rnost successful years and again achieved its purpose of promoting friend- ly relationships with neighboring schools and elaborating upon the technicalities of the various sports. Under the guidance of Mrs. Anita Her- man and Miss Drew Mossman and led by Helen Palkowski-President, Beatrice Levy-Vice-President, Della Wessels-Secre tary, and Rita Adler-Historian, the club participated in play days with near by schools thereby helping to expand inter- scholastic competition. Whole hearted enthusiasm and cooper- ation on the part of the members account- ed for their active interest as they attend- ed the regular meetings at which strict attendance was enforced. The award system, in use this year for the last time, stipulated that a member must participate satisfactorily in four sports in order to receive and Efficient squads turned out for all sports but basketball continued to remain the favorite and although it lead in popular- ity, hockey, modern dancing, softball, badminton, table tennis, andarchery were all given full support throughout the year: SPORTS LEADERS GIRLS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION VK Q Mrs. Anita Herman 'GQ M Drew Mossman -V? At Shanty Shack one night we started oft with the hope of getting enough contributions for a sixteenth page ad. We asked for pennies-but they swamped us. We get nickels, dimes, and in two cases even quarters. Everybody helped-freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors and visitors. Each contributor became a booster and the thing grew until this half page ad was the result. The gang was swell., Thanks a lot kids, and may the same spirit continue with you at Shanty Shack always. Did You Know that people, all over the world, who include large quantities of dairy products in their daily meals, are noted for their physical fitness, their sturdy build, robust health, and good teeth? that a glass of milk contains 15 hundred billion fat globules? There are more fat globules in one cubic centimeter of milk than there are people living on the earth today. that butter is the only food fat which is an important natural source of vitamin A? that about five quarts of milk are required to make one pound of American cheese? that adults can get all the calcium they need in one day by drinking three glasses of milk? Children require at least four. that one serving of vanilla ice cream tlf6 quartl is actually lower in calories than most other desserts - it contains only 200 calories? that one quart of milk contains as much calcium as 28 oranges or 27 pounds of potatoes or 39 eggs? that cheese ranks hiqh in food value because it is a concentrated form of milk, containing most of the protein, calcium. phosphorus, and vitamins found in milk? that milk is rich in calcium, vitamin A, and riboflavin? To get your daily require- ments of these dietary essentials, milk should be a part of each meal. that dairy products do more for the body than any other food group and do it more cheaply.
