EDHTQRHAL ForTunaTely for hisTorians, professional wriTers, curaTors, and Technical experTs, There will always be evidence of The enduring viTaliTy of The Roman TradiTion. ln- deed, The ancienT Roman World deserves superlatives on many counTs. lT had The firsT of This, The finesT of That, The mos? of The oTher, The unique example of some- Thing else. Hence, in planning This publicaTion of our yearbook, we, The Annual Board, have been inspired by The edifying picTure of The early Roman Republic. All roads led To The gaTes of Rome and Through Them To The Roman Forum which was The hearT of The ciTy and The empire, The nucleus of Roman SocieTy. From The basilicas, Temples, and arches of The Forum Romanum, The populaTion of The enTire ciTy could be observed. There were whiTe-Togaed figures of an incomparable dig- niTy, sTern soldiers wiTh The compulsion of dUTy expressed Upon Their faces, oraTors, officials, parTy chiefs-all persons who were unlimiTed in desires and ambiTionsT As fierce as The urge of Their naTure was, however, The feeling for law and order was deeper. lngrained in Them was The idea ThaT one musT have noT only a disci- plined mind, buT musT also live in a naTion embodying The principles of iusTice and fair dealing. These virTues were The ideals of Rome; in Their promulgation and enforcemenT lay her True greaTness. Our Hillsdale Forum porTrays The pupil's life aT school: her adherence To sTu- denT council regulaTions, her favorite amusemenTs, club acTiviTies, and her parTici- paTion in The Miracle Play and The HarvesT Fair. WiTh such diversified aims and individual TalenTs, we have barely skimmed The surface; buT whaT we have skim- med is all cream, and we hope iT will provide The Hillsdale School sTudenTs and Teachers wiTh a memory of The school spiriT and organizaTioni ANNUAL BOARD Edifor-in-Chief: Sarah TafT ArT Editor: Sallie Shepherd Business Manager: Alice FosTer LiTerary Editor: Carol lanniTTo PhoTography Editor: DoTTie Webb Junior RepresenTaTives: Edi Curran, Barbara Anderson Sophomore RepresenTaTives: Lynn Baxter, Lynn Gowdy FaculTy Adviser: Miss KoeniTzer
