Therefore, we proudly dedicale our Annual +o +ha+ group of earnesl and pa+rio+ic workers, called +he Vic+ory Gardeners, who are so willingly sacrificing +l1eir lime and pleasures fhal fha Unifed Nalions may win. oi ll' 'l N .. FLORENCE E. FESSENDEN Head Misfress EDITORIAL In our second year of war, 1943, we have become acquainted with many new expressions and phrases, words coined to suit new technical inventions of war and new ways of life. Just as in the first World War. we now use expressions in our everyday conversations and hear them in speeches, over the radio and on the telephone, words such as gasoline rationing, rubber shortage, Blita-krieg, block busters, Gremlins, red and blue coupons, point system, incendiary bombs and Victory Gardens. The Victory Garden this year, especially, is an all-important factor in the winning of the war. We here at Hillsdale might be classified as being important parts in our own victory garden. The Seniors are the finished product, the result of careful nurturing healthy, individual plants. Our gardeners, our teachers, have cared for us with loving hands and well-trained eyes. The weeds have been plucked out; our minds have been cultivated; we have been cared for with infinite patience and cheerful forebearance. Every one here at Hillsdale can be thought of as an integral part of our own victory garden, some just beginning to realize their own inidividualism, while others are prepared by every possible means to contribute their talents and well-developed minds for the benefit of Humanity. We Seniors realize that, upon leaving Hillsdale, we have certain duties to perform, both in our own individual victory gardens and in those of others. We now become gardeners, instead of the plants; it is our job to cultivate others as we have been cultivated and to contribute our knowledge to our country, its people, its government and its ultimate victory.
