Row one L to R John Hansen lvar Myer Bull Prnce Gary Copeland Lyle Proctor Row two L to R Fred Hollunger Gene Karcher Ken Peters Jum Ellts Gull Cyester Fred Haney Row three Lto R Terry McQuarle Lee Jensen Haven Kolls Mark Montz Hank Morntz Hlllsdale can be proud of thus years Varsuty Basketba'l Team The practuce schedule was htgh lnghted by many tremendous vvtns Carlmont later berly one of the top rated teams IU that league also was defeated on thetr home floor by a one ponnt marg n The Bears from Menlo Atherton a top contender for the SPAL crown were humbled by the Hnllsdale aces These vuctorues detlnttely showed that Hnllsdale would be tn the thtck of competttton for the PL crown In tournament play desptte the poor won lost record Htllsdale proved to be a good basketball power They tnsured themselves the respect of a strong well balanced club They wlll surely return to tournament competrtlon next year on the basis of these performances When Hlllsdale entered league competntton they were hgured no better than a second dlveslon fintsh as un the past years After the first two games agalnst Malls and South Cnty IH whlch they scored more than 60 pounts un each game the prospects grew greater for a successful season The thlrd game however proved tragtc Because of a mlnor vtolatlon a technlcal foul was called and Burlnngame then surged ahead flnally to wln a crucual game from the Knlghts The next three games were rather routine for Hlllsdale knockzng off Westmoor San Mateo and Jefferson The fTrst half of the league schedule ended on a tragic note for Htllsdale loslng to Capuchtno 33 to 46 Htllsdale started fast the second half wrth four stratght wms It was after thts that the Knlghts were rendered upset vrcttms of San Mateo On that same nlght Capuchmo vnrtually clnnched the league tttle It was In the San Mateo Hlllsdale game that the Knlghts agatn commlttecl a technlcal foul caustng the Bearcats to galn control of the 86 Varsity Coach Homer Zugelder n has fTrst attempt tn Varstty Bas ketball was very successful He kept our Knughts tn conten tlon for the PL crown through out the season Coach Zugelder formerly coached Cs and Ds basketball at Htllsdale Coach Homer Zugelder John Longar Edward Otto game In the flnal game of the year agaunst Capuchuno Htllsdale rergned supreme defeatnng the Mustangs 47 to 42 thus endung the most suc cessful basketball season to date The team was led by All League Gull Cyesters excellent shootung and reboundlng Also the late season splurges by Lee Jensen and Bull Prnce auded the cause Hullsdale wrll only lose two startung members and five TBA members to graduatnon 'Mu L me M F L x .
