SENIOR COUNCIL Jackie Gravelle Annette Warda Secretary Treasurer We are now at the end of our Senior year, but let us turn back the calendar to the days when we first entered Hillsdale High school. Unlike most Senior classes, our history is iust two years old, for we started at Hillsdale as Juniors. Since there was no Senior class, we as Juniors were the highest class, Jim Hollister, Bob Drennan, Jeanne Truluck, and Pat Hoffman were the leaders elected to start our class activities rolling. These four also served as Stu- dent Body officers. We started the year by sponsoring a Sadie Haw- kins Day dance. The guys and gals came dressed in Daisey May and 'Lil Abner costumes. A great time was had by all. Plans for Hillsdale's first junior prom were started and we elected second semester class officers Bob Drennan, Bob Hayward, Pat Deering and Marilyn Pesco who carried on to make the Junior prom truly great. lts theme was Midnight in Paris. One of the things contributing to the success of the affair was a re- alistic Eiffel Tower in the center of the room. Music was by Danny Merrill and his orchestra. Now the time came that we had looked forward to with eager anticipation-our senior year. We chose Chuck Scholz, Clayton Lee, Jackie Gravelle, and An- nntto Wnrr'ln nc niir new nffirnrc Our Fit-ct nrtiuitu Clayton lee Vice President Ann Willard Secretary MV' ,H+ wwf -f f 'qi -rf' Y QM' f' J sm 1 S, N . LY. W iw 2 33 .. -V. . .4 ,X -K , Janice Riddell Vice President Donna Jensvold Dave Kelley Treasurer PreSidef1T was a Senior rally for which we won a placque awarded by the Hillsdale Rally Commission. Next came the Knights Honor Day at which time freshmen had to bow to the seniors. This was fol- lowed by a dance after the Hillsdale-San Mateo bas- ketball game. As our last officers we elected Dave Kelley, Janice Riddell, Donna Jensvold, and Ann Willard. Their first iob was getting the Senior Follies in shape, This was a great talent show sponsored by the Senior class. The last big event before graduation was our Senior ball held at the California Country club, May 10. Finally came our graduation ceremonies-after the last guest had left, we went to the Elk's club for our grad night party-with a floor show, dancing to the music of Kenny McCall's band and then breakfast. All this was done in the atmosphere of Sea Fantasy and was given to us through the efforts of our parents. On June 13 the class of 1957 bade farewell to Hillsdale High school, but the friendships and the knowledge we gained here will be treasured memo- ries throughout our lives. A Big 'N Little Sister tea, demonstrations by hair-stylist Bernard, and fashion shows kept interest at a high pitch. Big name corporations, including Hiller Helicopter, Pacific Telephone and Telegraph, and Fisher Body cor- poration staged educational programs. The boys even got in the act at the Ideal Girl assembly. Present also? A Powers model. Hats Off To The World, a dance featuring foreign exchange students from neighboring schools climaxed a ioint effort to bring a foreign student to Hillsdale. Sponsoring an exchange student was the project re- sponsible for the outstanding assembly of the year: the kick-off assembly which included foreign exchange students in this area. The Sno-Ball and the A.B.S. kick-off dances indicated pretty definitely that the A.B.S. and the A.G.S. could stage nothing but successful dances. Tamalpais was the first victim in a season that saw the Knights take five out of nine. Highly favored Serra went down before the Knight's attack in the second game, and Carlmont added number three to the victory list, but a heart-breaker to Burlingame in a night clash gave Hillsdale its first loss of the season. Powerful Palo Alto added another set-back to the Hillsdale gridders, but the Knight's loss was not without glory. Palo Alto entered the game with a perfect record, no losses, and not yet scored upon, but in that game Hillsdale wrecked the perfect record by scoring two touchdowns. The Knights bounced back with vengeance to dump favored San Mateo, and then went on to hand Jefferson a convincing drubbing. At South San Francisco Hillsdale's warriors suffered a close loss to South City's grid squad. Then came the Thanksgiving day meeting with Capuchino. Although a loss to Capuchino closed out Hillsdale's varsity season, the Knights, under the direction of head coach Frank Collin and assistants Paul Armstrong and Frank Mac- Graw, in their first year as a full fledged varsity club, had taken their place with the football powers of the P.A,L. Win or lose, HillsdaIe's colors were kept brightly waving and the scores and final standings showed how wrong the experts were in picking Hillsdale as the underdog in .4 ll , ,--, -I AL- I--A1...ll ..-...-..... rf.. New personalities had little time in which to get acquainted. A week and a half later practice games against Serra netted a win for the 2O's. For us the season 'opened at home on October 4th versus South San Francisco with games which could have gone either way. The lO's were lust nosed out by 2 points and the 20's by 4 points. At Menlo Park, a practice game gave everyone a chance to play. The first league encounter away from home matched us in track-like games with Burlingame, with the hosts winning both contests. Our last practice efforts, with Lincoln of San Jose, proved a onesided victory for the 2O's. Hosting San Mateo, we dropped both hard fought games, each by 6 tallies. A double victory ot Half Moon Bay was followed by 6 and 7 point losses to Carlmont. Improvement against Westmoor, Jefferson and Capuchino produced an upset victory for the lO's over Jefferson. All three contests were easy victories- for the 2O's. GOLF EAM wi f.,. V-, - l FRONT ROW L TO R: Stan Reiscll, John Egbert, Gary Hardy, Bob Bendinelli. Activities included swimming, ping pong, volley ball, basketball, and a rally in the boys' gym. Pencils featuring the 1956 football schedule were sold by the class as the first money making proiect of the year. Long range plans for the Sophomore class include the investigation and possible sponsorship of a European child to this country.
