To fortell the future of our class we have decrdod to go through a day of one ot our classmates ten years from now Let us look rn on the home of Mr and Mrs Irm Coppeler on an average Saturday For a specrfrc date let us take Iune 2 l956 lrm rs now the very popular Chref of Polrce for the crty of Hrllsdale He lrves rn a seven room bungalow at 7l N West street He rs rudely awakened at 5 A M by the mrlkmen Drck Lrster and Wendell Dow When the alarm rrngs at tn 33 he shuts rt off and then tunes rn Casey Lanrus Mornrng Exercrse Program After thrs he goes down g ts the mrlk and paper and waves at Drck Neer and Brll Polkow who are gorng to work at the foundry Drck never drd break Bennets scorrng record Glancrng through the paper The Bankers Tough Trmes edrted by Harry Nerll Irm sees rn the head lrnes Cordrey Ards I Edgar Hoover rn Frght Agarnst Crrme After skrmmrng over thrs story he comes across an artrcle whrch tells about Catherrne Isley and Ioanne Robrson rn ventrng some non fall roller skates On page three he frnds an ad by the Beverly Powers Model Agency He notrces the rnstructors are Betty Cronk Barbara Hopkrns Ellen Blarr and Marlon DeFranco He then turns to the advertrsrng page Here he frnds that lason Bemrs and Bob Loomrs are cleanrng furnaces Another ad whrch catches hrs eye rs one by Frances Carey Smrth and Beverly Green about therr Lonely Hearts Club The advertrsrnq rn thrs paper can be compared only to that of the Mrlls Mrller Myers and Frarks Catchy Phrase Advertrsrng Company From here he turns to the gossrp column whrch rs wrrtten by Brlly Irene Smrth and Paulrne Houseknecht Irm s car rs rn Carl Englehardt and lrvrng Estel s garage berng overhauled so after breakfast he calls a cab He can t take a bus bec aus Theresa DeRose and Barara Gregory s attempts to rearrange the Inter Crty Transrt Bus routes hav nt helped hrm a brt Gorng outdoors he has an over the fence talk wrth hrs nerghbor Phaon Grbson who rs now a famrly man Oletha Bavrn drrves up rn her cab and Irm rs on hrs way As they round the frrst corner he sees Roger Strnky Oberlrn who rs an engrneer that rs he has found the easrest way to clean a sewer Gorng by Montgomery Ward s ne thrnks of Drck Luedemann who has now taken over the store Drck Wagner and Gordon Shaw are workrng there also As he goes rnto hrs offrce he frnds Marre Sprterr hrs secretary trdyrng rt up a brt Irm Alex ander who has followed hrs father s foot steps rn the mrnrstry has sent rn a complarnt about a krd shootrng a Vrncent hrgh powered B B gun Brushrng thrs letter off rnto the waste basket he frnds another complarnt from Snowball and Blue Iay sayrng that Wrllre Marshall and Hal Cozzens are runnrng them out of the Junk busrness by rllegal methods Decrdrng he has worked hard enough for a whrle he takes hrs early mornrng walk through town He notrces the drsplay rn the wrndow of Ralph Matthews sportrng goods store Ralph s store has now branched out to Steamburg He stops rn to see Dan Anderson the aeronautrcal engrneer who rs sellrng arrplane krts rn the drme store Wanderrng down the street he sees Wayne Sener standrng on McSherrys corner grvrng away hrs lrttle booklets Ill Make a Man Out of You Yet to all those rnterested Next he sees Brll Fowle and Leo Budd puttrng up a campargn poster for Iean Shafley who rs runnrng for Congress Irm lv'oench rounds the corner wrth hrs street cleanrng cart Thrs momrng he rs srnrlrng for he has frnally completed all the orders for the prctures of thel945 football squad Next he meets Drck Scovrlle who enroyed the navy so much he re enlrsted for another frfteen years Talkrng to Sleepy Whrtson who rs havrng a slack moment at hrs barber shop under the Keefer Hotel he rs startled by a screeck of trres ana then CRASH' lnvestrgatrng the mrs hap he frnds that Pat loyce who has rust gotten her drrver s lrcense has run rnto a Conklrn truck drrven by Lrzzy Maystead Agarn we see lrzzy rn hysterrcs Seerng that Pat rs badly shaken up he calls for Carl Densmore s ambulance servrce Arded by the Osseo mrnrster Bob Bohner they keep the crowd back untrl the ambulance arrrves Comrng along wrth the ambulance rs a regrstered nurse Sara lane Dohse Not far behrnd come the two under takers Bob lohnson and Blwyn Kelley who are always lookrng for prospectrve busrness Wrthrn hcrlf an hour the turmorl has subsrded and the Rector Wreckrng Co has gathered up the remarnrng preces of the car Irm retreats to hrs offrce to wrrte a detarled report of the accrdenf When thrs rs frnrshed he goes to Barbara Brldners cafe for lunch and rs ser ved by Phyllrs Bemrs After lunch he rourneys down to the auctron to prck up some fresn vegetables There he sees Alson Woodard and Don Oberlrn sellrng barb wrre Thrs they frnd rs a sharp busr ness He also sees Rowland Dow who owns a forty acre farm rn lost natron Oh yes we see Mary Lrppy Curnmrngs rs now head auctroneer at the sales Venturrng back to the page 26 1 - 1 - . . . . , .
