Lg-'A' L. Dedication When the dedication ballots were counted, the senior class had made a decisive choice. The favorite has an unbelievable record as an athlete and leader in his high school, college, and coaching career. While a student at Auburn- dale High School, he was a member of a football team that had a two year record of lO-O and a basketball team with an equally impressive rec- ord of 56-O. A member of the track team that took state title, he still holds the Polk County record for the mile run. At the University of Tampa he earned twelve letters, the most ever awarded there to an individual. Dem- onstrating superior leadership as a class officer and team captain, he also received the Marine National Bank Scholarship for highest freshman class average. Quarterback of the Tampa football team and top scorer in bas- ketball for two years, he was listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. He ended his college career as recipient of the first annual Spartan Achievement Award. ln the 1968 season when his Ter- riers posted a lO-O regular season, he was named top county grid coach. He's a winner, that's why Hills- borough's a winner, remarked a i969 Big Red football player. The senior class overwhelmingly agreed by dedicating this l97O Hilsborean to the state's best coach COACH BlLLY TURNER. Tampa Tribune
