Basketball 1977-78 The basketball team established history at HCC with a 16-10 record, the first winning season ever at Hillsborough Community College. The Hawks ended the year in a flurry with four impressive victories. The sweetest win was against cross-town rival Florida College. The 108-97 win snapped an 18 game Falcon win streak and gave the states Iuco 541 ranked team their only defeat in Division III play. Leading the path for the Hawks was freshman sensation Greg McCray. McCray ranked 10th in the nation in scoring with 26.9 PPC, first in the state in rebounds with 15.5 RPC and second in the state in scoring. McCray was the unanimous choice for All-State and All-Division III. Sophomore Ray Flach led the state in assists and broke the school record with 17 assists in one game and represented Division III on the South All-Star team. Sophomore Frank Stephens along with freshmen Ioe Magadan and Everett Hill were named to the All-Division III team.
