HCC Fastest Growing College in the State. The years between 1970-78 became magical ones. HCC es- tablished permanent campuses at Dale Mabry, Plant City and Ybor: achieved Southern Association accrediation in 1971 and 19763 and earned the respect and confidence of the community. Dr. Morton Shanberg guided its growth as president from 1970 to 1977 when Frank Scaglione assumed the presidency. It made no difference to stu- dents who wanted to attend HCC whether their classes met in portable buildings, satelite centers, or modern carpeted classrooms. The college parallel, vocational, and com- munity services offerings suf- ficed to bring them in great numbers. Enrollment jumped from 3500 to 13,000 making HCC the fastest growing junior college in the state. Student leaders like Claire Iordan, Iohn Cook, Henry Carley, Sharon Horn, David Spencer, Tim Williams and Mark Iacobs became career em- ployees.
